oh come on, i don't think you can compare poppy songs by boris and general pop music that is in the radio

i like this!

and Ulver? They've always been crazy ;) i don't know what do you mean by poppy songs when it comes to them...

oh btw how come noone talks smack about Torche playing songs like Across the shields (totally poppy yet awesome) or Healer (omg)? :-P

i just like the variety and i'm really curious about the rest of the album! :) i listen to a lot of music, some of it more poppy, some of it is heavy sludge, whatever - it¨s all about good music, not about good genres

Wrong version of Hope, blardy, but that's beside the point. :p It's not about playing poppy music at all. It's about playing music that is commonplace and people kissing ass because it's from this band and not from a band who always sounds like that. The "it's ok to like it if this band puts it out, but otherwise I wouldn't be caught dead listening to it, nor would I actually pursue bands of this sound" mentality is something that has always bugged me. This obviously doesn't include the bulk of ILFers, who seem to be an open minded bunch.

Boris had poppy songs, and they didn't sound like anyone else. New Album for the most part, sounds like a generic J-Pop/Rock album. The production, the instrumentation, everything. There are small moments that rise above the rest, overall there is very little originality behind it. It becomes "original" because it's Boris doing it. I love the variety that they have with their music, but other than this it's always been something that isn't quite so derivative. It has some enjoyable bits and pieces, but I really just can't see it as anything more than something one of the 1000s of J-Pop/Rock bands put out each year.

Ulver's newest single is some poppy darkwave with Garm singing. That's what I'm talking about.

Torche's poppier songs have nothing to do with this at all. That mixing of lowtuned sludge and pop has been there since Floor, and it doesn't sound like anyone else.

All of this being said, the CD Version is a hell of a lot more tolerable than the Vinyl one. The guitars are actually somewhat audible.

OK, i see your point now :) and i also get why Torche doesn't have to do anything with this (BTW i'm a bit behind everyone on ILF, i started to listen to alot of "notorious" bands after i joined ILF because i simply didn't know about them until then)

i have to say i don't even know that Ulver released any new single... the last one i know of is Dressed in Black from "Blinded by Blood"... whatever

Well I am disappoint with this one. Prolly give it another spin and thats it. Just not nearly as good as there other releases at all. I really hope Heavy Rock Hits Vol 2 and Attention Please aren't the exact same thing as New Album.

Boris sent me a split LP called something like "Golden dance hits" or somehting. I htought it was a joke title, and it was goign to be like harsh noise or something.
NOpe. 2 full sides of drivin; disco dancey house. I Lol'd.

 It's not about droppin' dem fat beetzz, y'hear?

My mistake about the Ulver song. It's a preview track for their upcoming album, not a single.

songs off the 2 upcoming albums.

i can say HEAVY ROCKS is gonna be very impressive.

seriously, ever since the japanese film 'Kokuhaku' used their songs. the pop audiences want them so badly...
I even met a girl saying she likes Boris a lot but little (like 0%) that she knows anything about the heavy and drone side.
so i guess Boris needs to do what they have to do, which i believe NEW ALBUM is the right direction.
as they are releasing under a major label, so why not some pop tunes that are Fuzzed up?

EDIT: and look at WATA on the cover :!!!:

I definitely get the shoegaze vibe on this lp, Spoon is what MBV should be releasing now. And I'm not a huge J-pop fan so I dont know whether its derivative or not, but I love it when bands branch out and release music removed from previous work. New Album has some great songwriting and hooks which is what normally gets me. I also think the first 2 7"'s on the recent Heavy Rock hits series are amongst their best work so I was kind of expecting a continuation of that, which I think this lp is. Also really looking forward to the other 2 new lps coming soon.

Ok so I was able to get in some time to actually "listen" to it and you know I really like it, I won't say it's their best album at all but for what it is I found it a very enjoyable album all in all. One thing I really like is the vocals aren't cranked up like a lot of J-pop... I get the shoegaze thing but I thought smile was heading in that direction anyway so this isn't as big a step as it seems really. On the other hand right off the bat nothing really stuck out, but I think I liked Looprider the best so far.

Fucking dogshit...... Feedbacker, Flood, Heavy Rocks, Akuma No Uta, Amplifier Worship are great records but everything since Pink just seems to be getting worse and worse....... Pretty much the same with everything on Southern Lord in the last 5 years......... except for that Winter reissue, that shit is hella tight........

Might as well bump since the two new ones are available for free streaming at NPR.

Listening to Heavy Rocks II. Riot Sugar is fantastic. So far everything after it....eugh.
