She's exchanging for a TC Nova repeater.

So now I can be jealous.
Fun fact: The guy she talked to at PGS said the 616 is the most returned pedal they sell. =/

Yeah, I've read about people returning them before and issues with them. Wonder what the deal is with 'em.
Don't the El Cap knobs all double as different things? I could definitely learn it, but it's beyond the realm of what I need. I was overwhelmed with the DMB at first but after a day I got it, but if every knob had an alternate function it might stress me out.

The Nova Repeater looks awesome. If she wants brighter repeats a digital delay would be good. If it doesn't work out, maybe look at the Catalinbread Montavillian Echo.

The El Cap looks intimidating at first, but it's pretty easy: you have your two switches that detail number of heads & mode, and there's a handy sheet that explains what all they do in terms of delay lengths and sound. As far as knobs go, there's Time, Repeats, Mix (those are pretty standard), then Tape Age and Wow & Flutter which are just modululation/tone effects. You CAN opt for the secondary setting, but most of them are tweaks as opposed to things you'll want to adjust, IMO.

I had the exact same problem with my 616. I contacted them and they asked if I plugged it into a different power supply. I DIDN'T RECEIVE A POWER SUPPLY WITH MY 616.
At least they wrote back to I'm going to contact them again to see if they'll fix it. I love the sounds from this pedal.

I'd consider a Subdecay Echobox. Lots of good things said about that, and their stuff is REALLY quality.

Hold down the bypass and tempo footswitches simultaneously. Each knob then controls a secondary function. Not the most elegant solution, but as another poster already said (I'm too lazy to read up and check who, sorry), the secondary functions are mostly of the set-and-forget variety.

^ must u hold them while turning the knobs or is it like a toggle?

You have to hold the switches down while turning the knobs. So yeah, it's not a great system for really quick tweaks on the fly. But I don't find it overly inconvenient as I only ever really change two of the secondary settings, and not very often.

I freaking love my Melekko 616 and so far it has held up like a tank... I would seriously try your luck again.
I have head worse about the carbon copy. Old Town music had 1/4 of their shipment come in broken.
Seriously something must have been up at PGS.

My 616 works like a charm. Every issue I've heard about has been a result of either using the wrong power supply/output, or worse.. a cheap, unregulated power supply that spiked and fried something. People don't always realize that just because it says 9VDC, that it actually puts that out.

I used a BBE Supa Charger with it. That's not a cheap power supply is it?

my friend recently bought a 616 directly from josh

it's somewhere in the process of shipping... there were absolutely no problems dealing with him
when i was choosing a simple yet great quality delay to replace my SMMH, i was basically thinking about Cusack T-A-D (fuck it, too complex, want to try it keep simple), Subdecay Echobox, Wampler Faux Tape Echo and C-bread Montavillian. I already have a Disaster Transport, but if i hadn't, i'd totally consider it, too
i didn't choose the Echobox, because according to demos, it's kinda dark and doesn't have any tone options... the modulation and 800ms of delay are cool tho
C-bread Montavillian seems like a really great washy atmospheric delay

and i remember seeing one over at B/S/T for 140$!
However i chose Wampler, because Kayzer offered me one

I hope it arrives tomorrow, in worse case it will arrive on monday... but i'm EXCITED AT LEAST!!!
from those that you are thinking about, i'd mainly choose between a Disaster Transport Jr. and Carbon Delay. Depends on if you want modulation for example...
