I made a thread about OD a while back and settled with an old modded V1 MXR Dist+ which I love and sounds fucking GREAT through a marshall with the preamp cranked, but it's so weird to me because I have the volume at 3:00 just to match the amp, whereas my Muff I keep at 9:00 and it adds an insane amount of volume. I don't know if there's something fishy with the pedal but it weirds me out...... like it's got one of those alien chestbusters growing in it or something........ A/B'd to the Muff I find I really love the sound of an overdriven amp though, which has just made me want to buy another OD....... I'm thinking a White Light or a Barbershop.........

It's really nice when you don't feel like playing clean but don't want to go balls-out aggressive. You can turn it up and get the BRUTAL TOANS but it is for the most part a milder drive. I also like the clean blend. I thought it was excellent on bass and I'm definitely going to buy another when I have some moneys.

My favorite part though is that all you have to do to access the inner trimpots is unscrew the feet by hand. SO CONVENIENT.

I don't like a lot of ODs, but there are a few that just really do it for me. Might be a bass thing, but sometimes it's just that perfect gnarly growl without quite going all the way into fuzzland. I seriously seriously love what McSpunckle did with the And Aardvarks!... so fat, yet gritty at the same time.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Wouldn't mind another pedal like that. I can get those types of drive from the behemoth, but another flavor wouldn't hurt. What are the trim pots controlling?

I used to be pretty bored with Overdrives.
But there are a few I really dig, and mostly because they can get a little fuzzy.
I love the Crowther Hotcake. I have an older one with the switch, and that thing can get really warm, fat and crunchy.
My other favorite is an old Grey DOD 250.
Wow is that an amazing sounding pedal. It really is "amp-like" and can get a little fuzzy at the same time.
real warm, and some nice booming low end.

OD's into Fuzz can open up a whole new world for your fuzzyness too.

So i wouldn't dismiss all of them. There are definitely some cool ones out there.

Well, from the site: "Filter (controls tone for the external Clean knob) and Presence and Drive Mix (lets you roll drive off and use the pedal as a clean boost)."

I kinda just adjusted them at random until it sounded good on bass. It sounded GOOD on bass, not like it was a guitar-aimed pedal that "also works with bass".

Now I see they have a new OD pedal and I might go with that since I already know what the Pork Loin is like...

Hotcake... interesting I would like to try one one day.

Mine is the Liquid Gain Hydra... it's a little bit fuzzy and I like it a lot... I think it use the same chips has the DOD... I also like the fact that it has two gain knobs (Hi and Lo),

I had a DLS... I gave it a good run and ended up trading it away in the end. It was probably one of the best ODs I'd used but... :whateva:

I agree with whoever said that fuzz with the volume turned down is better than using an overdrive. I also think that Devnulljp has got a good idea with a cranked treble booster but ultimately, Brian was right on the money when he said:

OD's have their purpose. I really like them stacked with fuzz pedals. My OCD loves to be stacked with my Tone Reaper.

Decent ODs can really tighten the hell out of a high gain amp. :excellent:

Maybe that's why I don't like then as much as some of you... I only use clean amps, for the most part and use my boxes for dirt, unless I'm going for a particular dirty amp sound ie: Orange, Marshall, etc.
