i've got an american special telecaster. basically the midpoint of the highway one and the american standard. pretty much a highway one with a gloss finish and motherfuckin texas special pickups. mean guitar and i love it to death. it shares time with my american strat, but it's an awesome guitar.

I love my Squier classic vibe thinline. To death, bro.
Only thing is the pickups are super low output, so I've been meaning change them out for a while.
But she loves the fuzz nonetheless. Neck or bridge sounds super rad with every pedal with which I've had the good fortune to terrorize.

I love Telecasters! I love how they look, how they sound and how they play.. awesome guitars!
I've got 3 and I think they all sound great with fuzz and distortion, both pedals and amps. None of them is the 'classic' Fender Telecaster with the 3 saddle bridge but they all have great Telecaster qualities of jangly twangy sound and wonderful feel.
Well... one of them is a Jim Root Telecaster with 2 EMG pickups... it ain't very Tele-like.. but still fun and I like how EMG pickups sound.
My other Teles are both G&L, an ASAT and an ASAT Classic. The ASAT has G&L MFD pickups which are like p-90s, they sound awesome. The Classic has an MFD single coil in the bridge and a Seth Lover humbucker in the neck. They sound awesome too!

This is true except for one clip, the rest are all the ASAT Tele with the MFD P-90s. They sound killer with fuzz and distortion, they have a mean edge and lots of bite and they're thick.

Tele's are simply great guitars, nothing else is quite like them. Ryan's right about G&L's, I have an ASAT Classic and it is a great guitar. Beautiful clean tone and handles fuzz really well.

Thanks, dudes and girl!
This all sounds great. Like I said, I had originally planned to get a Tele and swap the pickups for P-90s... now I'm thinking that would be somewhat pointless (not TOTALLY pointless), or maybe pointless isn't the right word... but like if I already have my Gibson Les Paul Special with P-90s, it seems like, if I want a Tele, it would be totally dope to have both, and that their presences would compliment each other very well. That way too I don't have to buy all sorts of extra shit and cut into the damn thing.
I DO like to have just like one MAIN guitar that I use for everything... but sometimes that just can't be or isn't the case.
I'm gettin' one.
MOT!

I put a 2002 MIM maple neck (not sure if it's the same as the late 90s ones you mention) on my 80s tele a few years ago and wouldn't have it any other way. Love the feel and it plays incredible. My luthier actually suggested getting the Mexi neck. As far as fuzz and pickups go I say route the bitch and drop in a good humbucker, another choice I made long ago. The bridge pickup is great for a good bite but to get those fuzz overtones really ringing a humbucker does it best imho.

Quest for Fire (local TO stoner/psych/fuzz rock) has a guitar that uses a tele w/ humbuckers (not sure exactly but def. not standard tele pups)? Definitely not the standard tele issue on most guitars but they have a sick fuckin' tone. You should check how they sound w/ fuzz and just check them out in general because they are fuckin' killer....... the Lights From Paradise album is unreal. 416 yo,

I need to put mine back together one of these days... I'm just trying to decide on a neck pickup.. Lately I've been thinking about taking two mustang pickups and putting them in a humbucker routed pickguard

and your luthier wouldnt have suggested it if it wasnt the most awesome neck ever. so I guess they made from about 96-02. IMO if you want that neck with a HB you can just get a new san dimas. its not a tele but its got the neck and the pickup. if you dont mind being different.
