Has he had the amp checked out? I have a Classic 30, it's a little bright but can be dialed out. Was way too bright and harsh when I bought it, turned out a tube and a capacitor were going bad.

I use a DBA IO Supreme btw

Good to know.

I'm formulating a list of OD pedals for my friend as we speak btw.

You're better off with a nice distortion pedal, than trying to fix teh crappy one in your amp with a pedal, but if your really into it, I think an equalizer would solve your problems.

I'd have someone build you a zendrive (*cough* R&D *cough*).

I went through a TON of OD pedals, and I LOVE this. It's TS based, but with a mid control.

Lots of TX love in this thrad. :hello:

Way Huge just re-issued the Green Rhino, it's pretty dark. I'd say check that out if you could.

Way Huge Pork Loin is a smooth OD and it's great on bass if you realize that it isn't going to have the ultimate aggressive OD sound. I say give it a shot.

I loved mine, gotta buy it again when I have some extra money.

this many posts without the Hot Cake!
it was made for bright amps.
try to find one with a switch, they get a little bit darker (in my experience).

dubkitty wrote:the Marshall Guvnor Plus will squish that distortion channel like a steamroller with its 4-band EQ, and its much-disliked treble cut will do wonders for that nasty, fizzy half-a-12AX7 amp dirt-channel sound if you leave the Guvnor Plus' C22 alone. and they're really, really cheap used. :yay:

i'd also try a different tube in the slot that gets used as the dirt channel driver--probably the last preamp tube--but that's a whole different can of worms.

stray thought: it might also help to have the power tubes biased.

I'd look into that first. If not. Fulltone Fulldrive 2. Built like a tank, so many options, ease of use, covers all bases really.

Thanks folks!

A list has been made. The hard part is now suggesting this to the person that actually owns the amp without pissing him off, because it was my friend, his drummer, that came to me with the complaint.

:whoa: ouch  :idk:

...if You happen to need a dark OD Yourself, buy one and offer it for him to test the amp with. and if You really didn't need it, sell it ot him or to me, for cheaps  can't see any other neat way out of it, if the guy doesn't deal with the other approach, You know, the blatant tough shit - deal with it

I think the new SS/BS mountain range has a filter that can roll of highs.

just walk over to his guitar and take the tone knob off. turn the tone down. put the knob back on like nothin happened. :omg: guitar players are mostly dumb. look at klon prices.
