Re: Squier Offsets
When the hell did HH become standard for a Jag? No interest in that on any single model I've seen, not at all.

Re: Squier Offsets
I would take a jagmaster or a blacktop over either of those. the bridges look lame, and I'm not against strat input jacks, but the placement so far towards the back looks odd on these.

Re: Squier Offsets
They're beginner's guitars, in my mind the idea behind them is for beginners to have the same shape guitar as their favorite guitarist. In that respect they seem pretty fucking cool to me.
I'm going to have to take a slightly similar approach to my posts in the Blacktop thread. I can understand the disappointment in design if you're looking for a cheaper Fender jag or jazz, but these are Squiers. If they sound good, that's about all I ask for from a beginner/budget guitar. If I'm low on cash with no electric guitar, I could give a fuck if it has a strat input and a weird bridge, it's as close as I can get.
They look like fun to me.

looking at what they are rather than what they are not, they look like way fun guitars.

Re: Squier Offsets
looks good for beginners, but without the jag/jazz tremolo and single coils i wouldn't touch it. those are what made those guitars in my book.

Yeah, they look like they're perfect for all of those 14 year old Cobain and Thurston Moore wannabes(nothing against them, but we all know Kurt Cobain is overrated as shit). I started on a Squier strat. It fell apart, but played pretty well for a good year or so.

You've got a point. Did they make them elsewhere for cheaper? If you're going to go for aggressive use of traditional design features, why not just go there?

Re: Squier Offsets
The more I look at them, the more I can't stand them. The bridge is a poor replacement for a Toronado type bridge, and that Strat input is gag-worthy. Another Jaguar with Duncan Designed HB's is a terrible idea, and yet they keep clinging to it.
Plus, if they're priced at the Jagmaster mark of $270, that's still a good amount of money. If they're up with the CV Duo Sonic, you're at $320. I got my Blacktop Jazzmaster for $400 shipped. For $80, I'd much rather have the traditional trem and jack setup. Not only that, but by all accounts that I've seen, the BT series is excellent quality. My BT Jazzy is easily on par with my CIJ Jag, and I've heard similar comparisons by others.
Plus, you can easily throw a Bigsby B5 on the BT Jag with a Vibramate. And a Bigsby on a Jag is amazing.
For so many people calling for budget JM's and Jags for *so* long, you'd think they would have listened a bit more.
