Honestly, the last band I was in was just guitar>fuzz>delay>amp. The overdrive/distortion just came from the amp as well as the reverb. There were a lot of intricate guitar parts that I didn't really feel the need to alter the sound of, so I didn't want to overdo it with effects. But now I play ambient post rock shit and my board is significantly larger.

I can understand for what you're doing and for music in general how people don't require much else. I use to be guitar, distortion, delay, amp, but I like new sounds. I try to write a song completely dependent on at least one pedal, just because most of them sound so different that it's fun to work in that realm. Only bad part is if something stops working or gets stolen the set is going to be a lot shorter.
However, lately, I've been re-evaluating and thinking downsizing maybe something to look into for the time being. I'll get some extra loots and dance less.

I'm in a band that requires me to only use a Rusty Box, which is on at all times.

I love playing with two or three pedals in a band situation, the restriction really does bring creativity. Then I add pedals for convenience sake. While I can get cool ambient swells with just guitat>comp>delay it's a lot more fun with comp>ring thing>polychorus>ex-7>dsd-3>rrr>616.
And while I can get both huge fuzz and transparent overdrive with a wolf computer, it's a lot more fun with ccdc>gz>WC>algal bloom>hoof
I find it's just a lot easier to find some sounds when you have fifteen or so pedals to play with. One thing I've found though, is when you're playing by yourself your pedals work perfectly, and whenever you play with the band or for a live show everything breaks down.

for reverb, if you're happy with minimalism then you should totally be ok w/ something like a holy grail, the nano one even

I have the nano holy grail, definitley more extreme then not, still at lower settign spretty good. I would get a Frontman 65R one of my friends has one, he loves it, they're pretty pedal friendly and probably loud enough for what you're doing, I'm pretty sure there's a 2x12 version as well.

My new rig for guitar/bass (works equally well for both) is Pitch Black -> Rat -> Bass Big Muff -> BiFet -> RE-20. Pretty minimal I suppose?

Funny how this thread popped up right around the time I sold most of my pedals. Main rig these days is Fuzzhugger Phantom Arcade>Pipe Amp. There's a little stone chapel I go to deep in the woods(so very TGP,I know). But due to the acoustics in said chapel,I honestly have no use for reverb or delay. It's built in. For shits n' giggles,I may add a DOD chorus or an 80's phaser with feedback control. I'm actually considering some type of spinning wooden disk to mount my Pipe Amp to,for Leslie Simulation. But with the pedal and the Pipe Amp,I can dial in muffiness,octave-y glitches/arpeggiation,filtered,squawky short decay fuzz,OD,Dirty octave up,clean octave up. Turning the Pipe Amp face up and rocking your foot on and off gives me instant fuzz wah. Holding the Pipe Amp up to my pups gives me such glorious feedback, and moving the amp around my pups gives me chewy filter/phase tones. What else do I need?

I've recorded bass on some songs without any pedals.

Rickenbacker tuned down fom E to A, brand new bright-as-hell sounding strings and a tube amp almost catching fire. The mixer had no trouble at all with that, compared to any songs with my FX-chain on. And I would have wanted to strangle him, just because it showed he didn't care to do the job if it was not the guitarist playing through the pedals.
And for the live shows, I have on several occasions stripped the pedal board to two dirt boxes, a blend/A-B pedal, and a chorus. To me it feels like stripping the bass of some of the strings. True, I could possibly play majority of the songs without all the strings available. But then again, I like to go astray with the bass line when I'm feeling inspired, and same goes for the gear, I guess.
more fuzz is always more fuzz and, You know

hell yeah minimalism. i use the majority of my pedals just for bedroom fun. when i'm playing with other people i'll use just one fuzz box and the guitar's volume knob.

I've only done one gig without some sort of pedal arrangement.
It was fun, and it fit the music we were doing that night.
Normally I feel pretty naked without at least one fuzz pedal though.

I would have to agree that if I was playing in a band again I would go ( strobe stomp , ect , SDD )
But pedals have been my inspiration to play , so I will adventually need to do a interpative dance to preform my solo stuff
