i have the 250K Ernie Ball volume pedal, and my subjective impression is a little loss of level, but primarily a loss of high overtones and overall clarity, not massive but audible. once i'm funded for such things again i've always wanted a Sho-Bud volume pedal because they're supposed to have a really smooth throw, and because they're huge, chrome-plated, and would go well with my pedal steel.

Do tell me more about this :D

I don't reccomend an Ernie Ball because instead of a real tradle it has a peice of string, just look it up, I'd just buy a used crybaby and have it modded to be a volume pedal, or you could get the Modtone volume pedal, looks great.

This seems good. Googled some more info on it, doesn't seem to suck tone or anything, and its pretty cheap!

Since were talking about volume pedals. I've been having trouble with my ernie ball jr passive pickup version. The pedal seems to jump in volume from almost nothing to full volume in the last 10% of the pedal travel. I have the pedal after distortions and before delays and I have a dedicated buffer. Any ideas?

there's a little black switch on the inside of the front of the pedal that changes the sweep sort of like that. it doesn't go from almost nothing but there is certainly a big jump there. flicking the switch the other way gives it a normal sweep

Yea I've switched around with that and it dosent seem to change much. For me the pedal pretty much only works when its the only between my amp and guitar.

Alright! stupid question time cause there's nothing to do at work:

Is a volume pedal the same as an expression pedal? I's thinking about getting one of those ernie balls soon-ish but I'd like a pedal I can use for volume or for expression.

Just about any volume pedal can act as a expression pedal. While most expression pedals wont work for volume pedals.
