I was jonesing really hard for an older OR80 before I got the Electric. After getting the Electric I've never looked back. Every time I turn it on I get goose bumps. Playing the first chord from it always just makes me smile. I admit these amps are dark and loose. You can get bass amp like behavior out of them and they can shake apart things but that is the behavior that compliments what I do. I'm no shredder looking to stand on stage and masturbate on my guitar in front of people. I want people to feel what I'm playing as well as enjoy it.

I have a very diverse playing styles and go all over the board. In your opinion how does it stack up to the OR AD 200 mk 3 ?

I don't have any experience with an AD 200 MK3. That's their bass head right?

I can tell you that the Electric Volume Unit (6 knob) 180 (KT88's) makes for one hell of a bass head. I actually sold my Mesa 400+ after I started using that VU180. I think they're under rated. It is super super loud but with an EQ section to die for with bass and with very little compression unlike the Mesa. But if you want that compressed sound you can always put a Barber Tone Press or EBS compression pedal in front of it.

I've got two Orange ORT120's, and the only amps I gas for are Electric Amp 180 KT88

I'm considering getting an Ampeg SVT to hold me off for a while, but just tell me more about the electric amps.
how do you compare the 120 to the 180? what cabs are you using?

to the original poster, my orange OTR's play really nice with the gain at 3oclock and the master dimed.
I use them as a synth amp, so getting a big low end and cleanish sound is important to me.
I prefer the sound of the OTR to the vintage OR120's due to the ability to keep a cleanerish sound.
yet i've been told the vintage ones would be louder then the 90's amps that i have, I can always use MORE volume...
yet I've never had the chance to put a vintage one next to mine to compare the actual volumes...

As far as comparisons go, the master volume 120 is different from the non master 180 that I have. The master volume 120, EL34 that I have is perfect for guitar. It has very warm cleans with almost no chime (vintage M and O...) but the fuzz circuit and "faq", deep knob react to each other so wonderfully. You have a lot of tonal options about this but never leave the underlying Electric tone. That means this amp is a one trick pony in some respects. It always sounds like it sounds but you can tailor the overall tones quite nicely. There certainly are sweet spots with the controls too but that all depends on what you want to hear. For example. I like to turn the Baxandall tone stack to about 1 o'clock on the bass section and to about 10 o'clock on the treble section with the deep knob set on the 2nd position and the master volume set to about 2 o'clock. There you get the HOLY SHIT effect. You can't buy that in a pedal.

The non master volume I didn't use with guitar much because it is just to damn loud. It is perfect for bass. I has a huge warm round tone with very little to no compression which allows you to use a compression pedal to it's full effect with bass. Because it is so open it let's all effects really shine through. I can't describe how happy I am with this Volume Unit with KT88's as my bass amp. It's perfect.
