So the ring mod sounds like a good thing for us to build, and not the typical build by any means.
And Forrest, I will be needing a few of those pcbs, let me know when they come in.

The ring mod I posted or the modified Craig Anderton one?
I've built both. The one I posted is idiotproof, noiseless, and much cheaper to build as it fits in an MXR sized enclosure, but it's a little limited. The Anderton is more difficult due to the higher parts count and calibration to reduce noise, and is much more expensive, but it's also more flexible.

sorry i am missing where the other ring mod is posted? but nbabmf's description of the craig anderton build is pretty correct. however the calibration only takes about 2 seconds and is just tuning 1 trim pot.
the board i made is 2x2 inches. im not sure what the exact dimensions of the MXR box are but i think it would be pretty tight. also if you want the effects loop and the probe jack i dont think its going to happen in an mxr sized box anyways.
i would say the anderton ring mod is not the best project to start with not due to parts count but due to the amount of off board wiring. but if you have a bit of experience it should not be problematic.
that being said if anyone wants a pseudo kit including: pcb, ics, res, ldr, caps etc and NOT INCLUDING:pots, switch, jacks, box, any other hardware i can set you up for 22 bucks shipped/ppaled in north america.
the NE565 chip used in the design is obsolete but i have a few and have more coming that i was able to get at a reasonable price.
here is a crap shot of a populated board so you can get a feel for the size of the project.

of course i forgot one component when i made this board so you need to add it underneath ( i will post a pic soon, it is easy to add).

The issue I had with calibration was with the Anderton kit. The null trim pot didn't quite dial out the carrier so I had to adjust the gain and use shielded wire for the offboard wiring.

Whoops. I never actually posted the other ring mod that I'm familiar with.

Just arrive about 15 minutes ago!
I need to write up the build document, but I can do that this afternoon.

yes actually you cannot completely eliminate the bleed no matter what. it actaully discusses that in the article in the book itself. you can get it pretty quiet though.

I plan to head these group builds often, so let's pick one to start with. There will be others!

Here are the circuits that have piqued interest in this thread, and who has the boards for them.
Vorpal Fuzz - culturejam
Little Angel chorus - culturejam
CA Ring Mod - multi_s
TE Thing Modulator - me
Pick one to start our little club off with, and we'll tally the votes in a day or so.

I go for Thing Modulator too, seems like a nice start off point..
