totally didn't see on the little instruction sheet to only use passive pickups (my main bass is an L2000). Plugged my Fender into it...and I might have to agree that passive is WAY better

Yeah, Tom and I had an indepth talk about active pickups and oscillation offerings from Fuzzhugger. That's why I went from getting an AB-Synth to the Chalice, and couldn't be happier.

Congrats on the Phantom Octave, looks good. I, to, have given it some serious thought since I have used, for a long time now, pretty hot active gear for that crystal clear treble.

I have had no problems what so ever with the AB-Synth oscillations and an active bass, (Seymor Duncan Music Man alnico replacement pickup + active tone circuitry), other than a little compression that might result from simply the fuzz fuzz. Helps if You follow the suggestions and place the pedal the very first pedal in the line (or com eto any other creative solution). But the Groundswell overdrive, on the other hand, really hated my basses hot output
though NOW I finally have a winner idea to fix this all right...

and it has TV Jones pickups

Yeah, I'm never going to have it first, so it was a no-win situation for me. Glad Tom makes the Chalice (which is the AB-Synth without the oscillation), so I can still get the same tone I liked out of it.
The video I posted of the Goose I got it to oscillate a little, but it was still pretty subtle compared to a lot of the crazy stuff I've seen/heard people do with that kind of stuff.
