which has yet to bear any kind of fruit such as a job.
I have tried Reason and Logic before, but never could really get into them that much..just not what I'm used to.
By the way, Raytownian..those tape recorders look awesome..I dunno if I'd ever be able to figure out how to use them...but dey so purty

oh god this is a grim outlook since im also doing pro tools as part of my degree in engineering

I'm taking an intro to recording class and I already hate it... I was under the impression (according to the course description) that we'd be learning to make basic ANALOG recordings, and apparently we're going to be working in Sonar or something.
Dammit, I WANTED TO BE STEVE ALBINI JR., not some dude who paid money to learn how to use a DAW... I mean, I went into this hoping I'd learn specifically how to improve ANALOG recording techniques, not some bullshit like this. There's absolutely nothing wrong with DAW's, but it's just got nothing to do with how I operate... I have no real need for a DAW for multi-tracking (only half-assed self-mastering)... I wouldn't have signed up for the course if it was described as "pay us so we can tell you how Sonar/PT works".
Also, the instructor thinks
Rap music is "NOISE"... I can't imagine what he'd think of my shit if RAP = NOOOOIIIIISE in his mind... He makes it a REQUIREMENT that our final projects be musical and have "melodic lines", even though the class is about recording, not composition... I am not too excited... I hate that he makes musicality more important to our grades than fucking understanding HOW TO PRODUCE SOMETHING.
Also-also, StudioShutIn, the Realistic recorder in particular IS SO FUCKING GREAT. I love it, seriously... It's probably the best sounding tape recorder I've ever owned. I can't wait 'til I have the opportunity to try recording live shows with it.
