This is an interesting topic. I'm glad that there are others (and I guess I could have figured) that know almost instantly which pedals will work for them and which won't. It happens to me all the time, and sometimes I feel kind of guilty about it, depending on where I got the pedal or whatever.
But yeah, I've gotten quite a few newer pedals recently that I was just going on like demos and stuff as far as why I wanted them... and a few reviews.
Devi Ever Godzilla... ehhhhhhh, just didn't DO me.
Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop... INSTANT love for that.
...and so on.
A few that I've gotten recently have been meh for me, but I'd be too embarrassed to list them.
Yer pal,

I have a hard time letting go of pedals...
Right now my fuzz/dirt pedal collection is bursting at the seams and I know I should flip some but I don't. For example I've been using mostly my Mellowtone pedals exclusively (Wolf Computer, Mini WC, Trumpet Fuzz, Singing Tree, High Five, MelX 2) but sitting on my shelf in my (cough cough) supply room is my DOD Thrash Master (I keep that one because it was my first pedal ever), ZVEX Mastotron, Way Huge Labs Swollen Pickle, DE Soda Meiser, and Fender Blender reissue.
The bad thing is that I really want a Blackout Effectors Twosome and I come across other fuzzes that end up on my wish list.

I did flip my DE Hyperion because I liked the SM better but... don't y'all think I should let some go!
I dread the day when I buy an actual pedalboard, lay everything out and realize that all my pedals won't fit. I guess I just like to keep my sonic options open. I don't play out in a band, but I like to have all the pedals available for recording purposes because that's pretty much all I do.

Most of the time i know it after the Demo Sessin for youtube and the A/B with other pedals! (1 or 2 days)
When it’s a complicated pedal I probably goof around with it for a few month until I realize if I need it or not!

Depending on the piece of equipment, I'll either stash it or just unload it quickly. My band plays a lot of really different styles, so depending on what it is, I know I can use it at some point.
But a lot of times, if I have to really justify keeping it to myself without finding some reasons right off the bat, it's gone. I have a couple of things that may be headed that way very soon.
