I play a '90s Jag. The only change I've made is with the pickups. I had the original pickups then upgraded to Seymour Duncans then to Curtis Novaks. They sound great. Both clean and dirty. But with enough fuzz, they'll get squealy no matter what. You probably want humbuckers if you want to avoid that - but it won't sound like a jag.
It's the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. I've tried out the newer reissues and the neck feels different. I'm not sure why.
I never have any problems with the vibrato. I don't use it much, though.

Only problem with them for people who are used to the older tremolo units is the trem. arm, its a bit lower than the MIJ and AVRI and my mate who has a MIJ always complains its too low for him to play glide with.. although i find it pretty good... probably what you're used to i guess.

me and your friend have the same trem problem

jags are cool guitars, couldn't be my main though
they make me play really aggressive, must be the bright pickups

I find it very difficult to get feedback from my Jag, even with a bunch of fuzz going. :s

Seriously? I thought it would be quite the opposite since they're top routed. Maybe it's just your pickups?

Same story with me, and mine has the normal CIJ Jag pups in it that everyone says squeal like crazy.

I've intentionally TRIED to make them squeal and feedback, and just can't do it. I don't see why people hate them so much. :idk:

I own a Jag HH Baritone, equipped with two humbuckers. It sound amazing, huge but sparkle, and sings very well with every fuzz I use.
But I think it couldn't be compared with a standard Jag.

I haven't played a classic player jag but the fender japan jag i tried sounded awesome but the pickups totally squealed even with moderate overdrive.

Fender Japan Jag for sure. Matching headstock "Constructed in Japan" on the back heel of the neck, etc. It was originally one of those all black CIJ HH models.

As far as the pickups, I bought a set of stock CIJ Jaguar pickups for like $15 shipped or something equally ridiculous. They looked like all the CIJ Jaguar pickups I've seen. :idk:

I can't even get it to feed back with one of my Sludgemakers - which are like a Fender Blender on crack in More Sludge Mode.

I have a '62 Jag and she feedbacks like a bitch. I don't know what you guys are talking about.
Jags rule the world. They'd be better if they were 25.5" scale, though. That's the only reason that I prefer the Jazzmasters. I moved the bridge back on mine and put a 25.5" B&B neck on her and now she's both super sexy and crazy playable.

Don't give me no shit for modding a vintage guitar. I'm a player, not a collector. :p

I was under the impression that Jag pickups were shielded. :?:

My 63 Jag is stock, and the pickups don't really squeal except under the loudest volume tolerable..anything less and they get nice controlled feedback. It loves fuzz, in fact it loves any pedal I can throw at it, and it sounds great through nearly every amp I've tried. The neck is like butter, and the tremelo works well and keeps tune well. Ive had it for 20 years, and it aint going nowhere ever.

Is that really a question? jaguars are fuckin tits. I just had to sell my cij a couple weeks ago so I can attest to their quality. I liked the neck more than my jazzy...

Ummm...so get one? With a matching headstock.

If had to play only one guitar for the rest of my life, it would be a Jag (with single coils). The pickups probably won't be that great if you get a MIJ but Pickup Wizard makes amazing custom pickups for super cheap.
And remember, if it doesn't have a floating trem OR single coils, it's not a jag.
