Ok I'm being serious now. Is there a way to give this a crap-ton more low-end for me and my bass-buddies?

:hello:

It is possible to give it more low end with a few cap swaps. Let me know if you want to send it in or do it yourself, either way I'll give you instructions if you send me an email.

It looks like 3 colors are still available over in the custom section of the EQD website.

I've got a blue one and it's classy as hell :thumb:

Did I miss the Shank bass mod instructions? Are they located somewhere else on the forum?

Pffft. Dood, don't worry about it. Whenever it's convenient for YOU. This is a nice thing that you're doing, not a duty. I was just afraid that there was some secret forum that it takes 50 posts to get access to or something arcane like that. ;)

I repeat, WE'VE GOT A TURD IN THE PUNCH BOWL.

So, I just spent about 20 minutes swapping caps and changing resistors and my initial suspicions were correct. It's not possible to squeeze anymore low end out of this fucker. You can limit the higher freq but that's about it. The first stage is punching the second stage in the face so hard that it's basically killing the signal and it's just not going to to let anymore lower freq through than it already is. The tone control in the fully clockwise position has low end-a-plenty without being dull or mushy to my ears, it's the top end that get's ya. I'm sure I messed with this in the past and came to the same conclusion which is how I settled on the current values, I just didn't keep any notes. However, if you still want to try this on your own, change the cap in the front right (by the wires, there are 2, change the right side one) to a .47uf and in the upper right change the one closest to the edge of the PCB to a .022uf and the one to the left of that to a .47uf. You should get 50v or less caps with 5mm lead spacing, those will fit nicely. You will notice that it gets more gain and a little more harsh top end. I'm sure there is a way to add a few more resistors to limit the gain and fine tune the frequencies better with some filtering but then it wouldn't really be the same anymore. It is what it is...
