sorry to derail/steal this thread, but does anybody know if there are any fuzzes out there that have settings that produce "mostly clean" tones but with unique/fuzzy undertones? I only know of one, the YOTR by Devi, but I've been reading about a few others that *might* do what i'm thinking of (but i havent actually heard them.)
Anybody have any experience with the new Hi-Ray by Freakshow effects?

The most subtle fuzz I've played so far comes from Montgomery Appliances (That was before he started his company).
He called it the Carbon Fuzz (you can still find it on Youtube).
If I remember correctly it was based on a BJFE Folk Fuzz with some tweaks.
You can get all kinds of fuzz tones out of it, from subtle overdriven fuzz tones to round mellow rock tones. Never over the top.
It's good for vintage and modern sounds.
Maybe he is still building them.
