There's gonna be a ton of new faces of rap, as with any genre. As for which face sticks for fifteen minutes, it could be anyone with a good hook.

This is from 2002, but hell... they're talking about science, so it's got to be futuristic, right?

Or maybe it's this:

Remember when this was the future of rap?

New rap?

I like Jaquin Pheonix punching those people, had to look up to see if it was part of a movie or something. It's real?

Anyone seen the lil Wayne documentary?

interesting thread....i grew up on rap music, lived on a military base in germany and our connections to the US was all within pop culture.... it wasn't until i moved to NYC that i really learned about the history of rap and where it came from that gives me a new respect for it, but the new stuff is motivated by HITS and $$$ and finding those bands who use creativity and originality (not rehashed classic songs to lame ass lyrics) are few and far between these days.....

so allow me to announce:

RAP IS DEAD

until someone comes along and brings it back to life, there is no new face, there is no groundbreaking act, there is no game-changing MC....

it's just POP MUSIC now....

Blackroc is pretty badass.... but i also thought Guru's Jazzmatazz was going to change the face of hip hop, and that was only popular in Europe.... :picard:

i miss real hip hop.... if i work on a show and Ice Cube is my exec producer (and one of the nicest coolest successful people i know) then HIP HOP IS DEAD

There's still real hip hop. I agree that there's a large portion of *pop* that isn't hip hop at all, but there is for sure still real-ass hip hop being made:
