Awh man it was. Im just glad im competent enough to DIY this shit. Never thought I'd be able to.
As for the iron, its one of these.

You can vary the watts between 140 and 100, and it has interchangeable heads on it for different applications. It also has a little light on it. Worked great for this, I suspect it will work great for kits n such in the future, although I'll eventually upgrade when I need too.

You might eventually have an easier time with a soldering station and a more pencil-shaped iron, but I used a really beat soldering gun like that when I started chopping up basses!
Good times.

Weller is the big one everyone loves
Metcal is great if you wanna spend the $$$
I really like Hakko stuff, I use an older hakko 936 which I highly recommend but the new hakko fx888 looks nice.
Tons of companies make cheap and good clones of the the Hakko 936 for <50 now, the Tenma one is decent that I know of

We have had Weller irons forever. We have only had to replace the fuse on one of them in all these years. And we use the shit out of them.

I also vote for weller, though it sounds like you may have already purchased a unit. I've been using my weller for probably 5 years, it's a real workhorse. Granted it's hobby use, but I average 2 or 3 pedals a week.

I spent yesterday with my son, the sweetest, smartest, cutest, most amazing boy in the world. We built Legos all day and I sent him home with almost every unassembled set I owned. I love him so much. My ex-wife brought my Fender Excelsior amp, the one I got from PumpkinPieces 3 and a half years ago, and I now own a proper guitar amp again. My rig is almost perfect: American Strat with Custom Shop pickups, Fender Excelsior, Buzzz (PURPLE SPARKLE!!!), Boss FRV-1 Spring Reverb, and a prototype Mini with only 4 knobs. I need a chorus and I'll be good to go.
Oh, and tomorrow I'm going to be landing at LaGuardia and spending New Year's with the woman I love.
Fuck, it feels good to be a gangster.

Adding on to my "bitchpudding is starting the year off strong" list: I got offered to play guitar for this local singer/songwriter I met at an open mic I frequent. She is open to me going nuts with pedals, which is perfect cause a lot of the demos she has are really sparse so there's plenty of room to write new shit on top of whats already there.
Stoked as fuck. Hoping this equals more shows and more gigs working with people. Thats the goal at least.
