I wonder if that has anything to do with the diagonal alignment providing a wider field of dispersal...maybe...

I'm pretty much sold on cabs with multiple sized speakers and a crossover. Don't think I'll ever be able to play on anything else.

Ooooo I forgot my head has bi-amping capabilities. Multiple cabs may be useful there, too.

Yeah, this is mainly what I'm thinking about. If there's no crazy sound advantage to having multiple speakers in a cab it will most likely be the way I go. Now to figure out what drivers and shiz... but, someone offered me an old 60's Bassman cabinet for trades. A 2x12 I think. I don't know much about it yet, but that might happen.

Why is that?

Without getting too technical, basic acoustic engineering principals explain why it works, it has a lot to do with how the sound waves run against each other and will cancel each other out to some degree.

Think about your sound being the wake from a boat. When two boats go head to head the waves slam eachother and diminish.

Two smaller cabs is a better idea usually, I say go for that. I really enjoy having my two smaller cabs being able to keep up with the rest of the band.

I mean, they're both 2x15s.

Good analogy there, w/the boat wake.

And a bi-amp-capable head would be a good excuse for individual cabs rather than a big single, IMO.

Yeah. That's why I want to move from my 15/6/1 to a 12/6/1 and a 12sub. You wouldn't think it would change much from the speaker wattage but going from 8ohms to 4ohms has my Glock Blue Soul almost doubling its output.

By "bi-amp" do you mean it has two cab outputs or it has the "all the lows to this cab, all the highs to that one" thing? Isn't that obsolete?

I don't think it's obsolete so much as the technology has finally caught up to the idea--which flamed out because the available/affordable gear wasn't up to snuff when it was presented.

That's possible. It may also be my stage placement. I sing in my band and am frequently standing off centre from my rig and up at the mic. I don't play big stages either.

It could also just be that the cab is a Glockenklang 4 ohm and its just really efficient. In comparison, I've tried Tecamp, EA and Genz Benz versions with 12s.

I know a 410 and 112 aren't the same but... I went with 2 410's instead of an 810 and it was the best thing I could have done. One can argue that moving two 410's may or may not be easier, but it's also about ease of placement, (In the back seat as Behndy touched on) and I don't always need that much. So just bringing one makes so much more sense, for me, a lot of the time.

Wow! That was fast (or maybe it's just me as we were slow as hell). Were they gigging already or are you guys just rollin'?

The drummer and one of the guitar players have played together for years, me and the 2nd guitar are new. So the guy that booked us has booked them as a duo in the past.
