The books are absolutely nothing like the series. They're still good if you like Douglas Adams (which I do) but don't go into it thinking it'll be the same.

Yeah I was gutted when it got cancelled, it's been the show I've loved the most in a while.

Douglas Adams is one of my favourites so I'll still read it eventually. Thanks for the heads up

Finished S2.
Now I'm really pissed that they canceled the show.

On balance I can be happy with two good seasons. Look on the bright side, at least it didn't run long enough to get bad.

alright, you guys convinced me to check it out and (3/4 eps in) it is really good, but my god it would be so much better without the english guy playing DG. I'm always down for elijah wood as milquetoast put-upon farce-on-legs tho!

DG Season 1 is good not great. generally the tone felt a bit too impressed with itself.

I hate that all the good movies/shows on streaming sights are only just now being put out rather than earlier this summer.
Especially since I know they'll manage to disappear before the holidays so it'll be impossible to find all the good shows before they're gone.

So wrong about the casting for Dirk. Maybe it takes a while to get used to him (or maybe you just have different opinions to me  )

:idk:

I totally get this criticism, and I definitely agreed for the first few episodes/half of season 1. But by the end and certainly after the second season I just found it wonderful to watch. Something about the tone/mood just really really works for me.

I watched two episodes of the latest DG and had to stop watching (there was a series a few years ago that was really good). Definitely agree that the eponomous character was miscast, and the tone of the whole show was way too impressed with itself.

I don't know anything about the books but I saw some of the BBC series from a few years back with Stephan Mangan (who is just ok and sort of likable in everything for some reason).

I haven't watched the BBC one, I expect I'd like it because Steven Mangan and also I would like to see a more faithful adaptation because the OG books would work well on TV.
