I saw that ad last night and was just about to message you a head's-up and then saw that you'd already been there....cool that you got it.
Cab sizes - both the 112 and 115 are the same size in width and height, but differ in depth, and so as far as visual symmetry goes (which I do understand in general...I'm the same way, as long as it doesn't adversely affect the actual performance of the item(s) in question) either would be fine.
Butt-plug gnome (...cue 4th-grade'ish boy's bathroom giggles here...) - the plug is supposed to represent a woman's torso wearing a corset?

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I know that the TB Scientist fucks are all against mixing drivers. Like. Don't use an Eden 410 and an Eden 115. Or don't use an Ampeg 112 and an Ampeg 2120. I say don't use Ampeg ever....but ah well. And to be fair, all the science claims of why not to mix drivers kinda makes sense in my head. To my ears, my Eden 115 and 410 stack sounded just fine. I guess two 410s would have sounded better. I dunno. But the fEARful stuff is not included in that drama because there's something different with the speaker tunings. So theoretically I could use my 12sub and 15/6/1 and that displacement won't be there. Where the same freq is coming out of each speaker the same and in the "other stacks" the freqs are coming out slightly different (the funny thing is that I used to be into this shit last year and could have explained it much better. Fuck shit balls. Fatherhood has stolen my knowledge).
I guess the entire point of all of my ramblings would be, which category does Dr Bass fall into? The camp where the freqs are different in the speakers so DON'T MIX DRIVERS!!!! or the camp where it's ok to have different speaker sizes?
That whole argument for/against driver sizes is where most of my waffling is coming from...I can theoretically see the side of not mixing sizes (standing waves, phase cancellation, etc), and studying what some of my fave players use (on stage, at least) seems to reinforce that (JPJ, my all-time bass god) always used/uses matched 810's); however, that doesn't explain why/how some mixed-driver cabs and/or stacks sound so damn good (Chris Squire has used mixed cabs before, as has Graham Maby (Joe Jackson's long-time bassist) and Gail Ann Dorsey). So I dunno...Dr B's site (such as it is) has shown both paired and mixed stacks in the gallery pics, so that's not much help. And it all shows how much it sucks not being able to audition either of them and buying by semi-educated guesswork.
I'm probably guilty of semi-serious over-think here, and it may all be a moot point; the guy w/the 112 put it up on ad saying that he hadn't had a gig in four years or so and the cab was just taking up space, and then gets a temp gig about 30 seconds later and now is using it. He's supposedly waiting on a set of back-ordered neo 10's for another of his cabs and will decide which he wants to use after the 10's are loaded and he can compare weights (he has back issues). This wait has now stretched into almost 1 1/2 months to date. His cab, if available, will also be about $65-70 cheaper than the 15. I think I'd rather have the 12, but it may or may not be available in the end. The 15 guy and I have been in semi-constant contact about his cab (he knows about the 12, btw) and he's been looking for a box for the 15 so we both will know what shipping costs will be...his will almost assuredly be more money (shipped from Nebraska) but he's good to go as soon as the cab is boxed and shipping costs are known. Blah blah blah...it may end up coming down to the 12 actually being available vs the ship costs for the 15. Not the way I'd really like to decide, but such is life...
I'm still interested in opinions tho...just in case I do get to choose.

food for thought... all notes are different frequencies something that is made for or at a particular one is great as long as all you do is play one note. You might then ask am I on the crack? but we all know that I am not on the crack but that TB Scientist fucks are in fact like those guys that say Noah had tiny dinosaurs on his ark and after the flood was over they got bigger... it's the same with gear, all that shit goes out the window the minute you are playing in a shitty room... which is almost always... so just do whatever the fuck you want..
Yeah...that's the other half of my thinking, and the part that wonders if the 15 might be a better choice. I do believe that either cab won't be a bad choice, but would one be a better choice? And I just know that, after all the mental agonizing about which to get, I'll then end up in a gig/recording situation that has me DI'ing off my preamp, Geddy-style.
...tiny dinosaurs that later grew...love it!...

Yeah and it doesn't matter some times what your rig is... I've played places where they insisted on DI-ing me and I was using a SVT with a 600watt 2X12 and a 1X18 even when the place was not big enough to actually need me to go through the PA...
The phase cancellation of mixed drivers is like evolution. It's a thing. No point in denying it.
But I totally get the "not much point to it in a crappy room" thing. And agree with that. Fuck. I want to have a 12/6/1 and a 12sub but the 12sub would never be needed because my cabs usually just end up being my stage monitor every place I play, anyways.
So. Cool things. I'm now endorsed by Myco Pedals. Some really sweet sounding a cool shit. Uses real tubes. Analog. Makes your SS amp sound like an all tube one. I'm pretty much handling the social media, PR, communications for it. So please go like the facebook page.
MSUsousaphone wrote:The phase cancellation of mixed drivers is like evolution. It's a thing. No point in denying it.
Sure but in the end how much does this actually matter? [granted most of the time I use one cab and DI it anymore and... if I was to go two two cabs again I'd get another mesa 1X15 because I really love the new one I have more then any other cab... except for my old SWR bigben... but I never use it...]
And I'm not suggesting that phase cancellation doesn't exist or isn't valid, btw/fyi/stuff...it does and it is, but I also agree that the crappy room analogy is more suited to the real world.

I've been playing the Swell stuff for a while now and they're probably my most needed pedals. When he made the switch to Myco, a bunch of Talkbassers were being the usual flying douchecanoes and me, Deltz, and some peeps put them in their place. I kinda struck up a friendship with MikeO (the builder) and we've kinda partnered to where I'm an "endorsed artist" but instead of playing conventions and gigs I'm more of the PR/communications guy. Really great pedals.
I saw the the Swell/Myco thread...don't really remember if I commented or not, but I was there. I do remember wondering that, while some were in fact being 'canoes, did the whole Dr B fiasco help fuel some comments. There have been a few moments where a builder, for whatever reason, turned to the Dark Side and peeps were burned as a result. Not defending, just sayin...
In any case...cool that you two got the gig! Any chance of doing a tourbox?
