I first saw those used by Sourvein back in the day and they sound huge! and apparently weigh like 14lbs
Yeah man! I am so pumped on it. I believe (If i am reading the serial correctly) that it is a 1982, almost as old as me. Thing doesn't even have belt rash. Theres a bunch of notes (like tune from LtoH E-A-D-G-B-E) in the case that make me think some kid bought it for guitar lessons and took them for a few weeks before abandoning them. For a 31 year old guitar, It's immaculate.

They are heavy. I should weigh it, but yeah, they are about as thin as an SG and weigh about what a les paul does. they break every rule of how to make a guitar.... i mean the thing is basically an MDF guitar molded around a slab of mahogany to screw the neck into. Dude from rosetta and I started talking about them and he was dead on with the description. The body adds so much crazy bass, but the pickups in the deluxe model are really high and chirpy. It creates this Mid range, heavy as shit tone.

I even had the thing tuned to B, and it held tuning with 10-46s on the guitar.

Here's a whole bunch of info:http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gibson/Sonex.php

when i saw the silverburst pop up for like halfish what i see them on ebay  , i just jumped on it. Silverbursts are just completely the sex.
Damn it is as old as me!! Thats crazy that its in such nice condtion!!!

From what I've heard they weigh like 14lbs which is absolutely nuts, and the description you provide is similar to what I've heard from people and from watching bands that use them. Really mid heady deep deep tone.

Silverburst alone is enough to jump on it, but half of ebay is crazy!

Congratulations on the sonex. I almost got one years ago in my freshman year of college without knowing what it actually was. Wished I actually did pick it up. I was also going to comment that Matt from rosette has one too but since you already know... I think he posted about it on that same blog I linked to before.

nice score man…that looks awesome. Good to know they are the shit. I've seen them come up from time to time, and always held back because I thought they were a bit of dog.

but the silver burst…man…that is a dream finish on a guitar.

Looks immaculate. Your theory is probably correct, these were some of the cheapest gibsons ever (until some of the really halfass ones lately) and I'm sure they were a lot of folks first guitar.

Mine's much more worn, aha

It's the Custom model with the ebony board and dirty fingers, total sludge machine, someone replaced the pickguard, but I kinda like it better than the goofy black on yellow. Feeds back like crazy. Not sure the DF are potted.

SONEX! My buddy has one and it sure is great. It's the color of dub's and probably more worn. Dingdang that one deathmonkey got is BALLER

John I saw those Butcher cabs and almost bought 'em on principle but seven 4x12's would be a bit much. Still, their existence at that price goes a long way toward backing up all of my usual cabinet rantings.

Today I saw an episode of Trailer Park Boys called "Conky". Warmed my heart :)*

But really I am in here to try to gather ideas about how I can pump up the jam on my hurricane relief raffle. Things started off with a bang but have slowed down. I'm trying to crank up the entries now that we've begun the final week. Any suggestions? I've been doing the (stupidly) obvious like spamming facebook and the three forums I ever go to but what else can I do? I thought perhaps I should join talkbass or the gear page but I'd feel like a jerk since I'm not interested in joining those communities for any other reason. I'm kinda stumped here.

I've got you covered on TGP:

At first Jack DeVille was the only one who posted in the thread. Then I got a couple other guys to respond. I'll bump it again, but don't expect too much from most of those guys.

Wow! THANK YOU. I really appreciate that. I want this to go good. I was just telling somebody that I don't think I've done anything properly 'charitable' since I got kicked out of the boy scouts about 30 years ago. So of course I want blow it up but no matter how it goes this'll be the first of many.

Just donated. Sorry I missed this earlier. Great cause Darren and I'd love to have an Ape Blaster.

Those Sonex are sweet!

Dudes, need input - good standard sized delay with trails? Prefer analog if possible, or darker voiced and oscillation. Love my Carbon Copy but miss the trails. Kinda holding out for the Minifooger but might pull the trigger on something smaller to stay with my PT Mini.
