About BSS, Bleh it totally kills the flow of the album. It's nowhere near as interesting as the rest of the songs.

First, there was Deerhoof. Then, there was Deerhunter. Now, there's The Dear Hunter. Could it get any more confusing???
I'm listening to Ida Maria. She is so fucking good!!! I just decided I want my band to cover Stella. I've listened to it at least 15 times today.

Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull, for the longest time I thought it was Jeff Rotull, and it was one guy and a band (like Elton John or something).

I'm feeling conflicted about these guys.

I'm trying to see them as musical geniuses who barely stay within the confines of a song...or...something. That's what people say about them anyway.
I also kind of appreciate how they're making noise music on saxophones. However I don't like it.
But the main part of me is saying "what the fuck is this shit". And I'm having a hard time changing that.
Maybe I'm too dumb to appreciate it or something. It's ANNOYING. Listening to them kills any "YEAH AWESOME MUSIC TIME" buzz I had.

I don't know about genius, but that was still pretty awesome. It's like Last Exit, Sun Ra and John Coltrane did acid together. The drummer was pretty sweet. Kind of a less noisy version of the guy from Lightning Bolt.
Free-Noise-Jazz(what I'm declaring this as) is a pretty acquired taste. You don't like it right out, but if you ease yourself into the genre, you learn to appreciate the proper aspects of it. In the past I may have said some people are too dumb to get it, but I certainly disagree with that now. Part of that appreciation simply is that they're doing something that crazy. Some people would call that pretentious or shallow, but is it any worse than liking a song because it follows a certain formula that simply
feels right to you like most pop music? It's the same sort of appreciation, just favoring opposite sides of the spectrum.
This has inspired me to listen to The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra Volume 1. It's also good chill-out music before bed.

I see what you mean. I came on a little too strong there. I don't totally dislike them or anything...it was being amplified irrationally. It'll still take some getting used to and maybe I'll never really get into them, but I was laying it on.
Sometimes when considering this kind of music or even really "out there" art, among other things, I think...that in the back of my head I dream up this stereotype of a "person who would be into this" and immediately feel against that. Kind of like thinking "oh man, people on the Internet are gonna eat this shit up, they'll say they like it to be cool but really can't even appreciate it" so then I automatically try to devalue it in order to distance myself from that. And then I don't even give it a chance.
Kind of like opposing the stereotypical audiophile. Or what people think of as a "hipster". Or like a few years ago when everyone was really into mocking the "soccer mom"...uh...construct. It is also pretty easy to call something "pretentious"...however blurry the lines may be.
This probably looks weird. I feel that I can't fully express my thoughts in writing (because my writing skill is limited), so they appear fragmented and differ from what I'm actually trying to say. Anyway, I do try my best to have an open mind, especially towards music and art. Sometimes I get stupid though. I have to remind myself to give everything a shot. So thanks for not yelling at me about that post.

Holy Fucking Rainbowshit!
To me this is like the musical epiphany of the year. But then again I have already acquired the taste. Snipel is totally right about this being something you can't like right away. These guys and their peer do away with any musical convention which makes the music 'work'. There are lots of conventional sounds and even meanings in music and Improv (that's how i'd call this stuff) tries to make music without any of these, or even against these conventions. This may sound theoretical and a little lifeless, it can be filled with life and energy if you do it right. These guys do.
I think it is impossible to like this music if you don't know where it's coming from. So if you like, give it a try and get a good Jazz CD, see if you can find something for you in there. If so, get some more. Then listen to this shit again and I think you will see what these guys are about.
PS: I can totally relate to your MUSIC BUZZ remark. I can't listen to this shit all the time, but there are a few artists even in this genre that give me goosebumps. I was totally pumped when I checked the Video you posted, these guys are the good stuff.
PPS: Why do you try to like them anyway? Maybe thinking about that will set you on a trail that actually makes you like them.

i've been listening to wonky beats from darwin deez for like, two days.
it's a mixtape featuring willy wonka and the chocolate factory samples and has some awesome and hilarious bad/good rapping.
