Yeah I hear you... I'm lucky if I like one movie a year... I know that hobbit was a let down... but then I still feel Jackson peeked with In bad taste...

 Always kind'a wish they had you know in LOR... anyway... Really a lot of what you have been seeing in Hollywood movies has been ripped off from anime... starting with a Matrix.. that is total rip-off the "matrix" it's self is taken right from Ghost in the shell. So even if you don't watch the real thing you are still watching it in a raped and bastardized way.. and in it's "golden age" [80's -2003ish] Anime really did take the scifi ball up from stuff like bladerunner with Akira and GITS :thumb: Sadly it's the net that I see as what is being a downfall for it... too much trying to sell dolls for middle aged men and crap insead of good stories.. rant rant rant rant...

yah. GITS is a huge influence on Matrix, but the Wachowski's actually ripped off The Invisibles HARD. you can do a search for it and there's pages from Invisibles that look like fucking storyboards for the first Matrix.

lol. Morrison was quoted as saying something like, "huh. they... maybe should have kept ripping me off for the next two movies."

Chiefy - i'm the only male i know, nerd or otherwise, that is completely ambivalent about all things LotR. i think the books were boring and the movies were a shitty mashup of way too much CGI and plodding repetitive plot.

GET ON THEM EAGLES MOTHERFUCKERS.

I call nonsense--the LotR trilogy (+Hobbit) is nothing less than gold-plated gold.

urg. i always feel like such a hater or there's a tiny chunk of Nerd Internals that was mis-installed during my production cycle..... but.... fuck the books. i do not like them at ALL. and i love good fantasy and sci fi and speculative fiction and robots battling dinosaurs to decide which Princess Of The Cosmos will rule supreme over the Net-O-Verse for the next 3 years.....

i've tried to read the first book like 8 times. BLEGH. NO THANK YOU.

Sooooooo.

Just finished Battlestar Galactica. Pretty awesome. Dug the way it all got wrapped up. Was watching like three hours of it daily for the past few weeks and now I feel like something's missing. Need another good series to get into. Has to be on Netflix or Hulu Plus, though. Tried Doctor Who but the first episode was ATROCIOUS. Just awful. Does it get better? And I've always been into the old school anime classics (Akira, GITS, Ninja Scroll, Fist of the North Star).....but haven't seen anything since 2001. Any of those on Netflix or Hulu Plus I should be checking out? Once you're done adding active preamps to your basses to be more like me, make me a list. :!!!:

But yeah. I used to be all into video games, anime, movies in general.....just missed the past decade. The last games I played religiously were the original Halo and Warcraft II. I never made it into the MMORPGs. Never played a single one. With five kids and still wanting to play music.....don't think that's going to change for a while. Might as well try to get back into anime.

Yes, it does get better. You have to give it about 3 episodes, in my opinion. The first few episodes are kind of throwbacks to the old episodes, so they can be a little off-putting to people trying to jump in. Give Doctor Who another shot, IMO.

Add me to the list of not doing anime...just never got into it. I used to read 'Metal Hurlant' and the American'ized version 'Heavy Metal' and became a fan of some of those artists when I was in college (perversely, I thought the movie was dumb).
