So I've kind of flip flopped around a bit. I went from not liking the tone of my Dingwall, to really digging it. So weird. I still hate flats, but can not see the appeal. After being properly broken in, they sound really dark, rich and full. They have so much umph to them it's ridiculous. I LOVE the tone. I just wish the strings had more give.

What I did learn however is I do like my solid state better than my tube amp. I started playing out of my Acoustic combo amp (200 watt) and it sound soooooooooooooo much better with the flats than my Eden tube. Is that weird??? Dunno.

The thing that also annoys me about flats is the way that certain effects react to them. For instance, my B7K sounds like butt with the flats, my new Cosmi Chorus sounds like shit with them too. With rounds though, both pedals are amazing. So it's kind of a toss up.

I wish the active/passive option worked for all basses, but sadly it does not.
An active/active combo like my emmteeedeee's makes life a little harder for teh fuzz.

I still want to be just like you :joy:

Flats - I love the way both Chromes and Roto 77's sound right out of the pkg...a week later, not so much. And it kills me that folks sell used flats, sometimes for a premium, on TB. Actually, what really warps my thinking isn't that folks sell them, it's that folks BUY them. You're buying strings liberally coated with someone else's DNA. During flu season.

Acoustic - I had a B20 for awhile, and that little amp had KILLER tone. Slapped together out of MDF in China by 9 year olds working 16 hr shifts for the equivalent of 47 cents a day, sold thru GC, and it SLAYED. Unbelievable.

Active/passive is awesome, I use it all the time on my G&L. But my Ric has no need at all. Even though it's all passive and single-coil, it is the meanest sounding motherfucker I've ever heard.

Flats, meh. My Ric came with them on, and my T-40 did as well. And I tried a new set of flats on my VM Jag just to give it a shot. Ech. Just too muddy for me.

Solid state and tube are both awesome, depending on what you're looking for. I've played through some solid state amps that sound awesome. But I just love playing through an all-tuber cranked up for teh dirtiez.

You send Rusty to me?

Ben, the album looks great dude! I can't wait to hear the whole thing!

I found a killer combo tonight. Decided to fuck around a bit. Tube amp and all. I have a love, hate relationship with gear. Yea, yea. Anyway, Cosmichorus, B7K, TAFM w/gate on, and Fuzzpotion. HOLY FUCKING SYNTHY BALLS!!!!!!!!!! This to me sounded fucking amazing! The Cosmi is soooooooo lush and the TAFM is just...man...it's just amazing. Everything together was just sooooooooo good. I'm going to do a video soon.

Happy to report that the Catalinbread Echorec is fucking awesome on bass. I think it will have to stay alongside my Endangered Audio delay. Warbly tape repeats into infinite feedback - very cool.

Behndy - Congrats on getting to the artwork stage man. It's such a good feeling when things come out as physical product.

Had a show using the Rusty Box as a preamp a couple of weeks ago - and everything sounded too bright. Might have been bad venue acoustics but its something I need to master. Was talking to a player the other day and he mentioned the new Carl Martin Bassdrive as a preamp/OD. It has tubey goodness like my EBS Valvedrive and may be closer to the sound in my head.....that said - the sound in my head always seems to be whatever isn't on my board at that time

Awesome.

Been curious about it, but not curious enough UNTIL I read something like this.

I love the Rusty. The one pedal I'd choose if I could choose only one. I'm a little surprised you hadn't tried it yet because it seems like you've owned everything.
