As a big Zach Hill fan, I've never listened to that piece in full. I get to the intro and I'm like "yeah I'm ready this time" and then the bombs start dropping and I go "ehhh maybe later"

admittedly a large reason for me liking that piece is that he rarely collaborates with pianists and i have a much huger boner for balls-to-the-wall drumming paired with piano than with guitar. if he did a more structured Hella-style project duo with Marco Benevento i would fangirl so hard. as-is i think there are some really interesting parts but the format makes it something i listen to more passively than a lot of his other work. i think a lot of Zach's appeal is his ability to put that level of technicality and madness into places where you don't normally hear it (rather than long free improv pieces).
