I find using the Akai MPC akin to awful, awful torture. I've never met a device that is so fucking dead set against not loading the samples I've told it to load 7000 fucking times. I'm about to throw this thing out the window and be done with it.

have you talked to rustywire about it?

Not yet, because you know what, I pressed the button that says LOAD and then DO IT. You'd think that'd load the fucking sample. NOT GIVE ME FUCKING NOTHING TO USE.

I would get my MPC to work just fine, but I found it to be torture too. It just wasn't working with my workflow. I can't stand that many menus and stuff. I never saw myself doing anything on it other than dicking around for 20 minutes and then just picking up a guitar or keys and be perfectly happy. Couldn't wait to get rid of it, but 10-15 years ago I probably would have loved it. Had the same problem as you though starting out...don't remember how I figured it out though

I would talk to the Dr. of DigDugDIY and rusywire like D.o.S. said. They'd probably help you a lot.

i learned on MPCs so they make sense to me. like w/ most samplers, the setup can be arduous, but once u get it there, it can be glorious.

i'd be happy to try an help, could be a lot of things. would need more information. just a couple quick ideas.
are these sounds u loaded from your computer or u sampled into the mpc then saved?
does it give u an error msg or any msg when u load it?
are u assigning the sound to a specific pad when u load? can u find the sound in the sample edit window?
are the wavs in 16-bit or something else?

feel free to PM me if u want so we don't clutter up the thread too much.

If people don't want us to post in here/clutter up we'll move it to PM, but maybe someone else wants to know so we'll go here from now.

The MPC came with a memory card, 512MB. First off, I'm using the newest free JJOS to learn the ropes. There are some kits on there and some I found online. Also a folder of samples. Now, I'm trying to slice up some samples and assign them to specific keys, this doesn't seem as intuitive as I'd like though.

The message is something like "Do you want to wipe the current samples from memory" or something like that off the top of my head. I'm just trying to load different programs and shit.

I'm fine with how it's auto assigning stuff so far. But if I have to change it I'm confident I can go into the menu and switch them out. I've found the sample edit window, it's a bitch trying to save this stuff though.

I don't know about the WAVs, they came with so I'm not 100% sure.

You know maybe I should just slow my shit. Tried using the Jomox T-Res for the first time tonight and uh, no idea whats going on there either. Maybe I'm too scared to blow my headphones or something.

werd, so is it like only sometimes the same sample doesn't load? sometimes it does? or one sample will always load, but a certain other one won't ever?

that msg is normal, it will ask u that every time. like sometimes u might wanna start over or whatever. what happens after that?

this would be way easier in person lol

Haha definitely would be easier in person. I might just have to spend a day watching various videos.

It says it loads the sample, like I can go in sample edit and scroll through the samples and slice them. But saving the slices and assigning them to specific keypads seems to be where my brain stops.

As for actually using other programs I load, it really seems to pick and choose when it wants to do that.

if u wanna do like a google hangout or something i'd be down.

sounds like user confusion maybe? when u load a sample u have to assign it to a pad in a program to play it.
when u load a program, u have to assign it to the track u are currently on in the current sequence in order for that program to be the active one.
when u slice a sample, you can either select it to automatically map the slices in a new program across the pads. or u have to assign the slices manually to the pads in a program of your choosing.

def watch some vids and read the manual!

I want something like this:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iRigStomp

But with a second midi-assignable footswitch, like using it for tap tempo and such. Then I can add flux/effectrix to my rig. :snax:

So torn right now between preordering the Roland Boutique JP-08 or the Moog Mother.

This is the hardest decision I've had to make all year.

Do you care about poly? Does va/analog thing make any difference to you?

You've already started down the modular path...

Are you worried that if you don't ge the limited one now, you wont ever kind of thing?

I guess just weigh in on what you want them for...if you are just looking to make weird sounds or synth lines...the moog. If you want a lead style synth with poly...the roland.

I'm more worried that I'm a complete jackass with money.

They're both so interesting. I want the Moog because I am getting into modular now, but I have such a boner for 80s Roland synths.
Not sure if these Roland Boutique synths are true analog though. Not that it really matters but ya know.
