I bought an amp from the US without living there. Imagine that.

Been there twice (not mine anymore Drip Edge Bassman and recently acquired Verellen Spaldo). Stressful experience, but turned out great both times.

Hm, I just pressed buy, waited for a couple of weeks, and then it showed up at my post office. Had to change transformer (or whatever) to get european current/electricity/thingy, but that was the only problem. It still ended up cheaper than buying a new Fender-amp in Norway (I bought a Bandmaster from the early sixties).

I sold an old Sunn Sceptre to a dude in Europe somewhere about 2-3 years ago. Made sure I packed it well before I shipped it off. He had me ship it to a company that would then put it on some sort of cargo ship for a month to send it over because it was the cheapest option. When he got the box, it was thrashed, and one of the transformers had almost ripped off of the chassis. Long story short: never use a 3rd party who puts your amp on a cargo ship for a month to send your amp to you and expect it to arrive safely

damn, that's terrible....i've sold 100 lb + hi-fi tube amps internationally on many occasions without any hickups. Just always make sure the buyer pays for insurance in the amount of the transaction.

Yeah, luckily the dude wasn't really upset & kind of figured after I guess not paying much to this 3rd party to ship it to him. He was going to get some work done on it anyways (I think to switch the transformer over) so it worked out in the end.
I've shipped one of my older Verellens up to Canada without a hitch though, that was just fine. Used FedEx with that one

I just don't do international shipping, it's too much of a hassle here in the US to be honest.

Avoids the problem altogether.

Unreliable shippers+uncertain time: I only send gifts overseas that I pray make it in one piece.

I dunno, but I reckon USPS is fucking awesome. Stuff always gets to Sweden fast, and its cheaper than pretty much everything else.

I got an amp shipped from France and it arrived in perfect condition. I was surprised La Poste didn't like have a strike halfway through considering to deliver my amp and have it forever lost.

DUDE DON'T TALK SHIT ABOUT LA POSTE AND MY FELLOW CONTRYMEN CAUSE I'M USING CAPS LOCK.
Seriously though, La Poste is awesome. I've shipped countless packages through their services and pretty much everywhere and only once had a problem. A pedal that some dude sent to me never showed up at my door step. Don't know if that ever got sorted.

I like when La Poste is on strike. Because I pretty much agree with their revendication. I dislike the idea that a very much needed public service is to become more and more a company. La Poste is pretty much what ties the country together in many ways. Make it postal services, banking services, phone carrier... It's often the only one around in much more rural areas. Plus it's a pretty good bank for not so wealthy people and non profits (like the local sports club).

French fun fact #376: French workers striking bad rep comes from the fact that by tradition, in France, when unions call on a strike, workers get in the street and throw a giant protest march. Whereas the Danish (who average at 5 times more in days not worked per 1000 employee than French workers) or Norwegians (who average at twice as much in days not worked per 1000 employee than French workers) pretty much calls in to say they won't show up 'cause their on strike and stay at home for the rest of the day. Like they don't know how to partaaay.

I'm always amazed at the fact that I find so many occasions to bore every one out on teh ILF.

Oh, Danish. Damn royalists. In France we have this expression, "froid comme un danois" (cold as a Danish) that I use extensively. It's a nice way to say that someone is unexpressive of and unresponsive to feelings and passion unlike us Mediterraneans.

ps - it's super easy to get my panties in a bunch so be sure there are more to come
