Agreed. There are only a handful of them that still sound great with no mud.

Mesa is my go-to choice for this exact application.

HOW DO YOU GET THEM TO WORK?!?

i thought 'cause i was going for a different tone on the second board a little tweet tweet would sound good. kinda forgot i'd turned them up. they just sounded totally blown.

murrrrrrr?

With any OD/fuzz/dist you have to turn up the tweeters sparingly. A little goes a long way.

Behnders - how high were they up? Cranked? That's gonna sound like shit with heavy OD going through it.

On mine, I turn them all the way down (7o'clock) then raise them to about 9-10 o'clock. If I'm playing clean, no OD - then I can get away with turning them up higher.

And in my case, I want the grind or clank or growl or whatever you want to call it that causes the mids and up to be present...British bass toanz is what I think of it as being.

i had them about half up. i might try a tad bumping them, but i'm happy with them off too.

i'm rascist against tweeters.

i don't want their kind around.

Is this one of those 'don't hate, appreciate' moments that makes everyone else what to bitch-slap whoever said it 'cause it's usually borderline condescending? 'Cause I'm not doing that here...at all...really...

I'm quickly finding that I wont like a cab unless a tweeter is there. It's not just that sparkle it gives at the top, but to me a tweeterless cab just sounds like it has a blanket over it or something like that. Boring, flat, muddy.

I found out I actually love having a tweeter in my 1x12. I have it cranked with my TS-50B also cranked, and it sounds absolutely completely blown out.

See, matched with a single not-huge speaker makes sense. I find that when there's just one twee and a bunch of woofers, the twee is trying to hard to keep up and sounds like a cheese grater.

I used to have one of those Hartke 4.5 thingies (four 5" aluminum HF speakers) that you could run a crossover to, and those were way better than a piezo tinklebox. Eventually though I realized that all you need a tweeter for is to amplify fret noise, awful Korn klank, and trade show slapwank. I want my bass to punch you the fuck out, not cut yr skin with a sharpened cigarette filter prison blade.

My hatred of muddiness is not so much about my clean or dirty tone, it's that it makes it hard to hear my fx, especially modulation. Without the clarity that a tweeter gives you, it's really hard to even hear that I have a phaser/flanger/chorus/filter on at all.

What, really? Sounds like your speakers or amp are letting you down, not any lack of tweetage. I can get leather-shearing treble violence out of my rig sans tuite.

yah. i head what y'all are saying about mudd (MUDD).... my range of amp experience is SUPER limited. i found the GS12's early on and have just loved them. but the tweeters always sound.... cheese grater is a good definition. just like blown out ugliness.

maybe Aggy makes shitty tweeters? and good ones sound good?

but people say the GS's are a bit mid scooped and i don't hear that at all. i get plenty of mids and higher stuff.

If 10's are getting driven too hard, they are not going to reproduce highs very clearly cuz they are doing the heavy lifting of bass frequencies at the same time.

My 4x10 has a ridiculous amount of power so the speakers do not distort. All I'm using for a head is a GK, either the 400 or the 800 depending on the gig. There's plenty of HF on tap.
