Maybe you'd feel more at home in this thread; http://www.ilovefuzz.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=31116 :idk:

I love that thread man :joy: not a contributor there but definitely a lurker.

I often head there to find new bands to check out.

I listened to some of the Mingus you guys posted today. That stuff has great groove and feel. I dug it! I can definitely understand why you like it. Thanks for sharing. I'll check out more of the stuff mentioned.

This thread is about Bass, Boobs, Bondage and Learning now :)

I do a heavyish rock thing with my band but lately I've been getting kind of influenced by post-rock or stuff in that ballpark. We started with a love of Biffy Clyro and have sort of circulated around that balance between riffy rock, big melodies and manic energy. I've always loved Explosions in the Sky and the Appleseed Cast. I always think about creating those sorts of weaving melodies on bass but also having vocals. We've written some new stuff that is promising I think. There are bands like Moving Mountains, Gates, Caspian and a few others that seem to do it well. A bunch seem to come out of New Jersey and surrounds it seems. Must be a hell of a good scene.

Brisbane does indie pop in every flavour so long as its retro, derivative and disposable. If you want to see 1500 musicians who all wear their Beatles influences on their rickenbackers and do a cliff notes version of the original concept, come here.

i had this odd dream last night. my subconscious was totally ripping off Donnie Darko for the first part. lazy subconscious.

i was walking across the parkkng lot from my house to work (not a dream fabrication, i live about 23 steps away from work) and a giant flaming piece of airplane wreckage landed on me and killed me. i saw it coming with enough time to chuck my dog to safety, but i was squishened. after dying i felt myself being ejected from vagina as a small wiggly human baby thing in 1975. dream speed up grew up with it slowing down at certain points like my first sexin's, playing shows, meeting important people in my life.

my life played out very similarly to how it's been in the Real World so far, except this time i was a gay man. that difference did make it branch out a bit different, but still lots of similarities. at 37 i had two little fluffy dogs instead of one, woke up, kissed my tiny little Japanese husband as he left to work (from a MUCH nicer house than i have now), was walking the dogs , and got crushed and burned to death by a flaming chunk of aeriel wreckage.

then started over as a woman.

i got through gay guy, straight woman, gay woman, and functional hermaphrodite before i woke up.

if that is how the afterlife goes, just an eternitiy of different perspectives on the same life, i'm..... i'm ok with that.

Piece of music: Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique

Album of all time: Losing Streak - Less Than Jake

Of recent years: Somewhere in the Between - Streetlight Manifesto

This past month: Would it Kill You - Hellogoodbye

I tend to like things where the group as a whole plays great together. There's no wankers. No big shots. Even singers. I don't like it when the singer is clearly out front. I like it when they are at equal volume/importance to the musicians. And shit doesn't repeat for minutes on end. It moves somewhere. I like things with movement. It progresses into a story BUT IT ISN'T PROG. Prog doesn't......it's......there's not enough cohession in the movement in prog shit. Too tangential. I like lots of counterpoint. Lots of depth in the music. But not the kind that is forced. Doesn't really fit or is there just to be off putting and different or to show how much you can wank.

That's all like.....when people ask what type of chick you prefer and you tell them "this ethnicity, this color hair, this cup size". You can see a chick with totally different attributes and still find her hot. I like lots of stuff that doesn't fit that. Just not country, R&B, jazz, and most things played on today's radio.

well, the thing is that we're all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there's no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves. the man couldn't have put it better. or better said, that mask I put on to talk to myself. what does god do all day? he plays with himself. true story.

What would you call bands like Cinematic Orchestra btw? I FUCKING LOVE THEM! Seriously one of my all time favorites.

Something else. Totally unrelated. God damn it. I'm not happy with my AB1. I'm going to try different strings on it, but I'm not really digging the over all feel of it for some reason. First I'll try different strings.

The problem I'm having is that it's not an aggressive enough tone and the neck is not nearly as fast playing as my Musicman basses were. All that could be strings. I dunno. New rounds and a proper set up, then I'll re-analyze. Otherwise I'm going to get a Rick or another Musicman. I'd get a Status but I don't want to feel like a Muse fanboi...heh. :p

I love my rick to fucking death, but I would definitely not describe it as fast-playing. But it has the most aggressive tone on earth. It's all about where your priorities are.

Well I'm not playing speed metal or anything like that. I just like a smooth neck. I guess it's hard to describe what I'm saying. lol

Most of the bands I've really loved the tone of played Ricks. The Toadies, one of my favorites of all time, and Tool (Undertow recordings)...etc. Whatever. It sounds awesome.
