Let's be honest, though, Arrested Development is junk food TV.
Saying regular S4 is better than remix S4 is like saying Lays chips are better than Great Value chips.

^Watched Ragnarok for the first time this morning. I can take or leave the superhero fad but that film is funny.

While this is true the first 3 seasons were definitely of a higher calibre than the 4th. They're still dumb comedy about dumb people, but the episodes string together better and the whole thing feels better constructed and less tired.jrfox92 wrote:Let's be honest, though, Arrested Development is junk food TV.

i'm not even a huge fan of AD (the wifey LOVES it), and having sort of paid attention whilst watching the first 3 with her, tired is a super accurate description of 4 and 5. everyone looks older and feels like they're just there to be there.
except Maebe. love her.
but why does she make such a yummy YUMMY old layday?
SO hawt in Transparency. THANK YOU.

Yeah, they had to drag Portia de Rossi into filming, and even then it was only for 5 episodes.behndy wrote:everyone looks older and feels like they're just there to be there.

I thought I was kind of crazy because the way they shoot all of the scenes with Portia, it looks like she was greenscreened into things, and the rest was done with over-the-shoulder stand-in shots.jrfox92 wrote:Yeah, they had to drag Portia de Rossi into filming, and even then it was only for 5 episodes.behndy wrote:everyone looks older and feels like they're just there to be there.
Like, I don't think she actually saw another cast member the entire time, other than one of the early days of shooting.

A lot of people in that original production went on to such better things, I'm pretty sure no one was excited to be making "Netflix salary" for a difficult single camera series (which means a bunch of reshoots for the same shit). I mean, Jessica Walter makes better money at Archer, and all she has to do is sit in a dim, cool room in front of a mic and read lines for a few hours during five days, and she's finished an entire season.
and yah - a few times during season 5, a few shots of Maebe in a dress here or a pair of jeans and heels there and I'm like, "whoa - nice." then I feel all creepy. lol

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
Recently wrapped up Riverdale season 2 with the missus. Edgy Archie has to be one of the most LOL-worthy concepts in existence. We're now watching season 5 of Arrested Development, which seems good for an occasional guffaw, but has failed at rekindling the zazz of the first 3 seasons thus far. Also, Eureka (on Prime video) is proving to be an amazing family-oriented, X-files-type show. I plan to binge it along with all the recently-updated CW faves on Netflix including Flash, Arrow, and iZombie, the last of which has been taking more of a dystopian, post-apocalyptic-ish turn in Season 4.

I gave Babylon Berlin a try and am loving it. It's one of those shows that's got its own original thang going on. Very cool

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
Watching Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets on Prime. Inane and bonkers. The acting is, uh, well ... I guess I have a different opinion of what acting is. So far the plot seems to center around an alien lizard anteater thing than poops out hyper-atomic pearls. But I get to watch Cara Delivigne run around in skimpy outfits shooting laser guns while the GF is out of town.
So that's a win I suppose.

Luke Cage S2 was alright.
The season finale was both a bit of a let down and exactly what I was waiting for.
Still waiting for Luke Cage + Jessica Jones to finally happen.
