Actually purchased the Maton from Broadway Sound in Knoxville, TN. Amazing craftsmanship and tons of tones in this thing. I have a Maton MS500 50th Anniversary on the way now, I'm totally sold on these guitars. They need to be more readily available so people can try them out, only like 3 or 4 US dealers total!

It seems they are getting more popular in the states or at least they are on ilf.

Very, very true. Been my preferred weapon of choise since late 90's. The Seymour Duncan alnicos KILL! And the matching preamp just SLAYS!

And they are not that expensive either - which is, of course, relative - so if You're bounding with Your instrument and awnat to treat Yourself with some HOT sound...

Downside? Downside to it is that they can be a little too much for some OD and fuzz pedals, and the random Christian Soundguy doing your soundcheck can't deal with it since it's hard to hide in the background and beats the fart out of his beat up Behringer mixer.

Okay, was taking some snapshots of my wife the other day and realised during the shooting that she might show off just as well with my gear, and call it a day.


So, above, my main instrument built for me in 1997. Love this instrument SO much. This four stringer is a local small time luthier Tuomas Niska made Rickenbacker 4003 / Music Man Stingray with some fine details. Finest available ebony fingerboard on maple neck through maple body, colored walnut top with brass engravings. The neck profile is unevenly rounded V-shape, measured and built to my hands. Due to body desing and massive metal parts under bridge, has excellent balance, no neckdive and doesn't even need a stand. Weights more than any four string bass I have ever tried (like, 6 kg - 14 lb, about). Seymour Duncan Stingray replacement alnico pup and the matching 3 EQ active preamp. Called 'a Music man on steroids built at Alembics' by those who have played it.

Look what Santa brought me - it's a Gretsch Electromatic G5265. A take on the fender bass VI really, came tuned to E just as any bass in decent factory settings. Re-set and downtuned it to C-G-C-F-A-G, probably trying out with the New standard tuning. ROCKS LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER! Bonds really well with my chosen fuzzes.

Local music dealer sponsors me by giving great deals like 40% off for some stuff (not doing product placements here) and he ordered a few copies from which I got to choose my pick. Like with any cheap imports production, the quality was far from even and it really saved my day that I could compare and play them. So here's a Caveat emptor to anyone interested in this instrument -You might not want to order this product from internet.

I'm actually giving a lot of thought to putting all my instrument projects on hold and building me a Vee 5er

Great, sounds to me, well, heavy! The classical V headstock just doesn't fly with five tuners so what the hell - why not six strings with (almost) the same effort and cost? OR I can recommend the Steinberger tuning system for V-projects with an outstaanding A+

- takes the headstock off Your bass and eases the neck dive prominent for light weight V-shape body instruments
- the tuners keep the tune great, they just need tilted headstock angle (missing from some of the licenced cheap imports I've run to).

There are, of course, other solutions to these possible problems but if the issue should arise, this is my five pennies, give it a thought
