Wish I could help out on the Jazz basses but my experience is limited.

yah. bums are neat. No Butt Touch Fuck Fly Zone is a deal breaker for me. i mean, i don't need to be nestled between cheeks every session, but it's got to be an option when the mood is right.

Never liked any jazz body or neck that I have tried. Always loved a P way more. I love the sound of a jazz, just can never get used to the feel of one.

I'm the opposite. P bass necks are too wide for my childlike hands. Jazz necks are much easier on them. But I prefer the sound of a P by far.

Fender should really make a few more mixed body/neck basses. They make the Deluxe P but it's active, which is a no go for fuzz.

So yeah. Fuzz. I'm still.....I dunno. I have my splattery awesome gnarly in the TAFM and I'm hoping the Second Voice Deluxe will handle the synthy. If not, I know where to go for it. But.....I'm looking for some smooooooooooooooth fuzz. Not light. Still very thick and saturated. But nothing harsh. Totally smooth fuzz. I haven't found that guy, yet. The Arc Effects guy is getting close. Maybe it's it. Maybe I'm just being too picky. I dunno.

Try to find a Frantone Lo-Tone. There is one on TB. Talk the dude down a little in price.

For smooth, you're probably looking at a muff, or a fuzz face, or maybe a tone machine with the octave switch off.

As far as Ps vs Js, I always found the P more comfortable to play, but I prefer the sound of the J. My VM Jag bass is a decent middle ground. It has a thinner j-style neck, but a little bulkier body, so it's kinda P-like. And it has both a P and J pickup, so you can get whichever tone out of it you want.

Ben - P-basses have the single split pickup; J's have the two skinny pickups.

I've looked at the VM Jag more than once...I don't NEED another bass right now, but I like the way the Jag both looks and sounds.

yah. i've had people explain that before but it never really sticks. i don't have enough experience with them to equate what that means in sounds in my brain meats, so it kinda slides right off.

I LIKE MY BASS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S DOING TO MAKE ME LIKE THE SOUNDS THAT COME OUT OF IT. WE WORK BETTER THAT WAY.

That's exactly how I am with my Status. Got that guy 12 years ago and haven't looked at another since.

Thanks fellas, I'll check dem muffs and fuzzfaces out. I really dig the Arc Effects guy. A bit big and expensive for my 3rd fuzz, though. And.....not as......fuzzy as I want....or big saturated. I dunno. I'll keep examining. But that guy is cool. A nice starting place.

I think that's why I like Ben Lindsey. You sort of start with talking about a Pbass and then confirm woods, pickups finish etc but then he also talks about weight, neck profiles, the sort of grind you want tonally, the music you play - and he does his best to meet the requirements overall. I really rate the guy as a builder - and have two precisions with modern jazz necks, overwound pickups and one strung thru the body.

I totally get the idea of owning 3-4 basses that do different stuff but you really want to invest in your number one I think. Ben's basses are half the price of Talkbass heroes like Alleva and Sadowsky so I'm happy I got there without emptying my bank account.

Sousa- on the fuzz search, how was the Arc output and midrange? I've been really impressed by EQD Hoof demos if it helps.

Finally - traded a Malekko Bit plus cash for a Baby Thundaa with a cool ILFer. Parcels now being arranged to head to northern and Southern Hemispheres :joy: still have GAS for a Hoof though. Might sell my Rat Tail to fund one.
