those reissues were cool except for one problem. they dont stay in tune. second problem. use the trem and its out of tune. so basically I love it but its crap.

That bridge assembly makes me nervous Looks like those strings are barely hanging in there...

the guitars stays quite good in tune didn't expect it either
an it looks quite strange, but the ball ends fit good in there.
Someone mentioned there is an upgrade possibility with some standard hardware. Not sure if i will go that way. Demontage of the trem bar for sure soon - don't need it.
Best thing is, that the guitar is so tight with the string tension. A lot better and more fun than my 7 string.

heavily modified Gretsch Pro Jet: added Dynasonic pickups, Bigsby B3C tailpiece (rather than the regular B3, because i really needed it to say "Gretsch" on there one more time ), Grover Sta-Tite tuners, bar bridge, etc. Basically the poor man's Duo Jet.

Strat parts-o-caster, built from Fender parts: MIK "Koa Stratocaster" birdseye maple neck w/rosewood board, MIM alder body, Fender CS '69 PUs, Grover mini tuners w/pearl Schaller buttons, StellarTone Tonestyler wired to middle/lead PUs. i also built a matching Telecaster to this.

Tokai LS85 Les Paul Standard: 2 piece body, 1 piece neck, flamed sycamore veneer over maple top, dead stock.

Tokai Les Paul Special; this is my favorite. 2 piece body, 1 piece neck, also dead stock. i love it when i get a new guitar and i don't have to do anything to it other than play it.

Those 2 Tokai LPs look sweet.

I've got my eye on an Edwards (an offshoot of ESP) LP in white, but I am also looking at the Tokai stuff. Could do with some P90's somewhere though.

There's also a cool looking Epiphone SG in cream in one of the shops I like to look around in. Might pick that up as well.

where are you located? if you're in the UK (or not, for that matter), i ordered the burst LP from Rich Tone in Sheffield and recommend them. they have a ton of Tokais, and mine arrived in California in immaculate condition and perfectly set up. they even held the guitar for three months on a 10% deposit. and this was on a guitar listed on eBay (where they have literally dozens of Tokais; you have to use Worldwide search from the US). i usually don't endorse retailers, but in this case i'll make an exception.

Yeah, I live in the UK, and I actually had my eye on Richtone, especially if I go for an Edwards, but they do have a nice selection of Tokai stuff in as well. I plan to venture into Cardiff as soon as there's transport running next week, as the one place I get most of my stuff from has a bunch of Tokais there, including a rather lovely-looking Violin Burst LP for £599, and an SG for about the same price. I tried the SG a few months ago, and I was impressed.

thank you. getting the Dynas in was a little tricky. they're meant to surface mount but don't clear the strings if surface mounted due to the neck angle of the Pro Jet, which is shallower than that of the Duo Jet; and if you install the Dynas in the routs for the original pickups, there's an overhanging lip of wood from the guitar top which keeps the pickups too far from the strings for good PU response. the problem is that the PU covers don't quite fit because the flanges on the edge of the pickup covers are too broad. the best bet, if you have the tools, would be to grind down the flanges; alternately, you can remove wood from the underside of the top (which was my approach since i don't own a grinder) to allow the PU covers space to move closer to the strings. unless, like me, you're obsessed with the sound of DynaSonic PUs, it's way easier to retrofit FilterTrons; FTs more or less drop in to the newer (post 2007) Pro Jets, which are more hollow inside than the first ones to hit the market. however, several people i know of other than me have done the Dyna conversion, so it can't be that arcane ; PM me if you're interested and i can tell you more.

the rest of the stuff was quite simple. the stock Gretsch "rocking bar bridge" drops onto the small-diameter Tunomatic studs on the PJ. the Bigsby, which might have problems with insufficient string tension and strings popping out of the saddle slots on a Tunomatic, has no such problems with the bar bridge due to the bar's huge, long slots. i've had the opportunity to A/B compare my PJ to similar Duo Jets and honestly i like my PJ conversion better for what i do.

Here's my beloved Maton BB1200JH and LP Custom. The LP was too unique to pass up, finished in a metallic olive green (Gibson labels it Antique Pelham). Flash on my camera can really make that fucker glow, neon-style! These pics are fairly close representations of the finish...

Here's my beloved Maton BB1200JH and LP Custom. The LP isn't quite so bright in person, more of a metallic olive green. Flash on my camera really makes it glow. Also, recently traded for this TM Jazzmaster, which is a nice change of pace for me.

I was bored today and decided to play with my trusty Hondo P-copy.
I don't have a router so I broke out the wood chisel



I was originally going to put a J pickup in there but decided to use the Hondo's original P pickup. Maybe I'll throw a cover on it or something, I dunno. Anyway I like the way a dual P configuration sounds!

Thanks guys. Yea, I had never seen an LP that color either, Gibson calls it Antique Pelham Blue, basically Pelham with a yellow lacquer sprayed on. They claim it's the color an old Pelham finish will change to over time with oxidation and such. It's chambered and has 57 classics, all of which made it a pretty unique LP Custom. Plays like a dream also, definitely my best playing guitar.

The JM has been seeing a lot of action lately, sounds so totally different than anything I own. I had to add a tone pot though, the one knob volume setup was way too bright for me, needed some control over those highs!
