I really really really don't like giving presentations. I always get nervous and sound like a fucktard despite how well I may know the material. Also, the presentation was supposed to be informal and under 10 minutes, yet every other overachieving bastard who already presented did a ridiculously amazing power point, presented for like 6 hours, gave everyone oral, blah blah blah etc. FUUUUUUU ANTHROPOLOGY.

i don't like Rush. I've tried. I think Geddy Lee is annoying. BUT i realize that they're all ridiculous musicians, so i'm not completely bashing them. i just don't like them. at all.

they always sound to me as if they've been recorded to tape and then played back several percent too fast. the squeaky vocals, the general lack of low end, the cluttered, busy feel...they sound like they need to be played back at -8 on the turntable.

i also hate dream theater. i respect them, but i find them to be excessively technical for the sake of being excessively technical. i don't give a shit how many million notes per second petrucci can play, it doesn't impress me. i think i'm on an anti-prog warpath tonight. next up, Muse.

I can't think of any band with a keytar...ist that isn't a steaming pile of dicks.

Well, how about any band that has released an album in the past five years and is not Devo.

hey, man... don¨t sweat it... when you're there, in front of everybody, YOU are the one who has the power. YOU are the one who should be listened to and who should they pay attention to. Also - YOU are the one who has all the information and who knows his shit and THEY are there to get them from you

embrace it, be good

Like I said, Rush killed prog. It was a wonderful, multi-faceted genre until the came along and shit all over it. Also, Muse = prog? I've always just thought of them as alternative rock with crunchy bass and the occasional synthesizer. I think they're ok sometimes, but nothing more than that, ok sometimes.

Tales From Topographic Oceans by Yes is one of my favorite albums to listen to on drugs, or otherwise. Which brings me to the fact that I miss taking recreational drugs. :( Living with parents + no connections + no money = no fun. Though I may have resolved those last two. Also, I'm seeing a new psychiatrist soon, maybe this one won't be so apprehensive to give me benzos, for uh sleeping, and anxiety, and that is all. :trippy:

ok, i'm pissed off

my Fuzz Factory clone came back from the builder i sent it to for repair... essentially now "Stab" knob doesn't work at all, it seems like it's been completely disabled, because the pedal just oscillates all the time no matter what i do with "stab"

i paid almost 25 dollars to get my effect to work but it came back probably even worse than before (before it didn't play at all)

Muse? definitely not prog. another band that started out as fake Radiohead. they kind of wound up as Queen doing OK Computer without the melodies or the vocal quality. do not want.

IMO the problem with modern prog compared to the old-school variety is that old-school prog wanted to, er, "expand your mind"...folks literally were concerned with sound as a mode of consciousness alteration. modern prog just wants to impress you with twiddly instrumental bits.

I like Umphrey's McGee. I call em Jamprog. They can pull of improv like no other and they have an excellent sense of meter and musicianship without coming off as pretentious. They are in essence a Jamband but they are tighter and are more consistent than Phish or the Grateful Dead which makes them more accessible to people who aren't into the Jamband scene.

I just wish they'd play Spokane more often. In their 13 year career they've only played Spokane once and I can't afford to travel to Seattle, PDX or Boise. To be fair they usually play festivals like Bonnaroo and 10K Lakes and sell out medium sized venues throughout the Midwest. They played here in '09 at the Shitting Factory and it was half full,..so I guess I don't blame them for not making Spokane a high priority. The Deftones and Slipknot played the same night at the Arena which in this town is going to draw more rubes than an actual good band (No slight at the Deftones,...they are the only band out of the Nu Metal era that I still like but Slipknot was the headliner and they suck.)

I had never heard Muse until I witnessed the Chris W. worship that was prevalent on TBFX. It piqued my curiosity so I pirated all their albums and gave them a listen. I agree that they sound like a Radiohead/Queen ripoff. I do appreciated Chris' use of effects and his sound is tasty,...but Matt B's lyrics are repetitive, hackneyed and cliche. I won't say that I hate or dislike them but I'm certainly not a fanboy,...not enough to actually pay for any of their material. Knights of Cydonia is a cool song. :idk:

My soldering iron just broke.

In the middle of a batch of pedals.

Fuck.

Not really a big deal, as soldering irons are easy to replace, but damn. It's annoying to have to do so.
