There's one up on my CL for cheap, and I've been thinking about picking up some simple recording gear (which I know SQUAT about). A USB mic that I can plug into a computer seems like a way to start, and I have a copy of Garage Band already (something else that I know zip about yet, but it came with my MacBook). Would this be a decent way to at least start?
Can't help with the mic, but I remember reading some article by some producer guy about how garageband was "refreshing" for recording because it's so simple. Plug, play, adjust track volume.

Don't know about that mic, but generally you'll want some kind of pre-amp rather than direct mic -> computer. You should drop blenderz a line, he has like 50 audio interfaces just collecting dust. Talk him into selling you one of his MOTUs on the cheap. They have decent pre-amps on board and come with a bunch of software for Mac. Should also allow you to plug in your bass directly. Not ideal if you're using fuzz, but if you're just looking to get started, learn the ropes and see if it's something you're into, it does mean you can skip a mic and make due with just the interface.

I'm glad they all took it with a decent sense of humor. I always find it silly when folks worry about phase cancellation, but then I realize I have an unrealistic amount of amp.

So I can understand a Status basses price.....or Alembic.....or Zon....or Dingwall......I can listen to it and tell what sets them above Ibanez and the such......I can play on them and fell the difference. Justify it. But what the fuck makes Fodera shit worth the $8,000 price tag? Holy balls.

When me and a buddy visited the shop, Vinny was showing us a bass he was finishing up and a huge box of pickups had just arrived.
He said he needed to install them and get the bass out the door. They had the case, box, and packing materials all ready to go.
He told me it was going to cost him $1500 to have it shipped next day to Brazil.
He said it was cool, because the price of the bass was $16,000
Yes.

I'll never play a Fodera. I have no desire to even if I had the funds. I will however one day own a Wal. I don't know when or how, but someday.
So I ordered new strings for my Dingwall from Payson strings (fucking awesome dude!). I ended up getting flat groundwounds this time. I fucking HATE flats, but I LOVE these flats! It's has kind of changed my perspective. They sound so much richer and fuller than the other flats I've tried. I'm horny. Very, very horny.

oh YOU.
Muddz - i do have an extra Motu 828 Mk II firewire i'd sell cheapish to an ILFer, like $250 or so? but if you want to go with the Blue Snowballz mic or sumphing i've got an extra copy (legal even!) of Cubase5LE if you want it. LE version means you can only run like 5 soft synths and have 2 record in outputs per projects i think. it's plently verbose for home use though. and if you dig it i think with the LE version it's only like fitty dollahs to go up to the full, non-LE version?
murrrrrrr?
