I got one a while back to rediscover and it just made me sad
I still have my first one, in about 10 pieces (it works but it is just a mess)
I think the biggest problem was that I used to play single coils and now I mostly use humbuckers

Hmmm.... almost a full page and no pedal board... shame...

Well...

:animal: BASK IN THE SONIC DESTRUCTION THAT IS MY EFFECTS PEDAL BOARD!!! :animal:

Image

Basically, my main signal chain is before and after the Schism, only the B3K and Divided Octave (green ringer) add any dirt outside the mixer.
The Schism is the 'gnarly effects box' of the chain, and mixes upper frequency fuzzstortion and modulation (ch.2) with low/mid frequency fuzzstortion (ch.1).

in > Divided Octave > Schism > BMC > B3K > Timeline > Submarine Designer > out
ch.1: Tall Font Russian > Bluebeard
ch.2: Unpleasant Surprise > Bottom Feeder > Compact Faye Sing

I'm still messing with the mix, and have yet to fully experiment with the Bluebeard (fucking amazing fuzzstortion box by the way), but the TFR and Surprise mixed together is pretty ridiculous; lowend vroom vroom with highend squelch, especially when the Bottom Feeder and Faye Sing come into play.

The Bluebeard offers silly amounts of screaming gain. The pinched harmonics are as fiery (more so actually) as anything I've heard with my bass.

Decided to fill up the board tonight. First time I've actually put this much on the pro, feels good. Can't believe I actually put the Arc Flash up for sale, thank you all for not buying it.

Ibanez DL10 : That Delay is my first Delay and it flipping rules
as a standalone straightforward delay it sounds great
repeats get a little dirty
in a feedback loop with the phaser it is rediculous

I have looked for another one but they ones on the interweb seem overpriced currently

I have had that pedal forever but it always sounds good

Thanks man! Yeah, it's a labor of love, for sure. I am getting closer to 'boulders in a giant's iron cauldron', so much help here and on TB. I think the B3K and careful eq'ing prior to and after is the key. A combination of the BMC and my amp's settings. The Mesa M9 is a fucking angry black dragon, so I'm sure I'll coax the sonic mayhem I want out of it sooner or later.

Heh, ok... Grab some milk and cookies (or a bong and hot cocoa, whatever)..
I tried a few octave pedals (Octamizer, OC-2, MXR BOD, Octron...) I loved the way the Octamizer sounded the most, but it didn't track well enough for me... I also liked the sound of the Octron, and it tracked the best out of all of them, but it wasn't present enough for me, too quiet. After trying an OC-2, and kinda liking the sound, but not the bypass, I almost gave up on octaves, until I decided to assemble my own from a BYOC kit.

The Divided Octave was a fun and challenging build, and is basically a Musitronics Mutron Octave Divider, which is basically what an Octron is, and as such, is still too quiet... I'm going to modify the octave down volume sometime soon, as it's next in line for the soldering iron, but until then, I find I'm enjoying the green ringer circuit in it. In retrospect, I suppose I could have kept the Octron and sent it back to Foxrox for a volume mod (been done before, and with good results), but since I have the Divided Octave now, and it's my own assembly, I figure I'd use it as an excuse to learn more about modding circuits. (Though I did mod a BYOC envelope filter for bass, with less than stellar results... it's now on my lady's guitar board, remodded back to stock, and she loves it).

Anyhoo... It's a giant blank metal box (the DO) and as such, needs some sort of graphic. I was gonna etch an image of my lady's giant booty on it (you know, the octave down brings the fat ass on!), but decided to stick with the underwater/space theme I already have going. So, I printed up an image of the known universe (see my avatar) and folded it around the box. That's what's happening now with it. Soon, when I get the time, I'll etch it and a few other pedals (including the aforementioned filter).

Well, that's the story behind the Divided Octave on my board. I did try to sell it, but the buyer was less than impressed with the octave down output, and suggested the pedal was faulty... it's not, just way too subtle for most (including myself) so I accepted his return and refunded his money, no hard feelings at all. So, now I'm trying to make use of it, and have received some great advice on modifying it for my needs.

I know many like the 'synthy' nature of the OC-2, and the grit of the Aguilar Octamizer, but I prefer the clean octave sound of the Mutron clones. To be honest though, I don't use octavers much, since my rig has stupid amounts of bass, even with my twangy-midrangy Thumb.

Thanks for asking!

vrom, the volume on the Divided Octave is good to know about. I've looked at it a few times and thought "I'll never find a reasonable Mutron Octave Divider, but I could build that thing."

If you do come up with a boost mod for the octave, be sure to document it in the DIY forum. I'm sure a ton of people would be interested.
