100 watts bare minimum for guitar if you want any sort of headroom/clarity at drummer volumes.
in a few weeks (When finals are done) I'll have more time and plan on opening up the cab to switch the V30's for some EVM12L, hopefully I won't have a problem with those.Ancient Astronaught wrote:Could there maybe be a short of some sort in the cabinet or maybe the cab is just really susceptible to feedback?!?! thats weird bro.
sounds like a killer rig - do you know if the electrolytics are updated/or/ok?Forrrest wrote: Anyone know about Sound City SMF amps?
8 X EL34 (but only 6 are used as power amps, 2 are phase inverters)
oh no, this isnt for my band, this is for home to mess around with...I have a Laney IRT120 for the band which is really nice.christianatl wrote:IDK, dude. A 30-watt amp isn't really enough, IMO.
Not my favourite Orange amp. They're good, but not my kind of thing. I don't like modern Orange tones personally. They're too woofy and slushy. For clean tones, though, it's fine. I think a single-channel AD30 (if you can find one) or a Rocker 30 would be better for that, but didn't you already have a Rocker 30 or was that someone else?samzadgan wrote:nice milestone to hit...!Iommic Pope wrote:(This is a cheap move, I know)

what are peoples thoughts on the Orange TH30 heads? anyone tried one? do they have a thick meaty tone?
Man…I sold the Rocker 30…worst mistake ever! i'll most likely buy the head if i can find one day.AngryGoldfish wrote:Not my favourite Orange amp. They're good, but not my kind of thing. To be honest, if you just want a clean amp for lower volumes, look into a Fender Blues Junior, Vox AC15, Ampeg GVT15, or something of that variety.

That is awesome. Also on that list...the new Sandrider (which you introduced me to) is one of my favorite records of the year. Thank you good sir.
I've always wanted a Rocker 30. It's a nice grab 'n' go amp for small performances and jamming.samzadgan wrote:Man…I sold the Rocker 30…worst mistake ever! i'll most likely buy the head if i can find one day.
I hear you about the modern orange amps…i've been watching some good clips of it, and there is a second hand one going for a good price. I'll have to try it out at a shop and see whats its like. But the Ampeg GVT15 is at the top of the list along with the VHT 12/20…we'll see...
so i tried out the OR15 and the TH30...i have to admit i prefer the TH30...the cleans on it are extremely nice, much nicer than the OR15. I found that with the OR15 i had the treble all the way off and bass all the way on to get a tone i liked...but with the TH30 they were both between 10 and 2 o'clock. On the gain side, TH30 at first was too tight and fizzy and couldn't get the shape control to work, it was either too muffled or it was too modern metal, and was put off by it...but after playing the OR15 i came back to the TH30 and gave it another go...this time i had the shape knob at just a little off 12 o'clock and took down the tone on the guitar down to about 7...suddenly, it sounded freakin' awesome!AngryGoldfish wrote:I've always wanted a Rocker 30. Definitely try out the Thunder 30. It may be perfect for you if you liked the Rocker 30 as much as you did.
that's sweet...i'm also really considering tickets to hellfest this year!...not sure if I'm young enough for the camping though!Barnhard wrote:My parent's bought me a ticket for Hellfest as a Sinterklaas (Dutch racist version of Christmas) gift. Holy shit that's quite a lineup. I would love to see Unida and Dozer (and Acid King. They haven't played outside of NYC on the east coast in like a billion million years).Barnhard wrote:My parent's bought me a ticket for Hellfest as a Sinterklaas (Dutch racist version of Christmas) gift.
