Have you ever played one of those enough to really want it despite the cracks?
I think no matter what yo should PLAY BEFORE COMMITTING!
Personally I don't like how that one goes through the paint AND the pickguard :wha?:

i haven't played one, but they sound really sweet and are weird. i'm totally with you on playing things before you buy 'em though, i've had a few dumb experiences buying instruments without checking them out first. i think i'd probably be able to play it first.

the whole front is actually one big piece of lucite with the paint on the underside. makes the cracking look extra weird.

just ordered a professional looking metal ear syringe on amazon for $17. I already have mineral oil and hydrogen peroxide. been having ear problems so this should help a lot. ear candles are a scam.

Here's a question for everyone. I didn't think it should have its own thread so I'll just ask it here.

When you are talking about how good or bad something is - whether it is music, or a game, or movie - how are you qualifying your judgement?

I get into arguments all the time with my friends because I insist of having two separate qualifications. The first being how good (or bad) something is, and the second being how much I liked it (or not). These two very rarely line up because I refuse to let nostalgia, or the idea that something is "classic" (or the opposite, that something that is new or different is automatically better) interfere with my first assessment. The second is my pure opinion. What I liked and enjoyed most.

For one thing I don't understand why I get so much shit for making this distinction. I mean it isn't so serious as say, childhood breakfast cereals, or favourite Goosebumps book, where battle-lines need to be drawn. Because that shit gets heated.

i think that most people believe that because they like something, that's the same as it being of the highest quality/wonderfulness/whatever. i've always admitted that my liking something is no arbiter of greatness, because i've always liked quirky things like Dannie Richmond's drumming and Neil Young's voice. in fact, i sometimes love things that in objective terms SUCK. i think in fact that you've got to be able to distinguish between the subjective and objective response...otherwise you're never going to be able to look at your own work objectively enough to tell if you suck or not.

well, when it comes to arts and stuff, i don't believe you can truly truly ever judge anything objectively. hell, i just don't think humans can objectively judge anything period. although i have said on many occasions 'it's bad but i love it!' but that is sort of my way of saying i like it even though i know most people will say it sucks. a way of avoiding the argument that often goes along with validating liking something because i know my validation won't be 'okay' for most people. validating liking art is probably one of the dumber things in life, anyway.

i guess you can judge things as you think the majority of people will judge them and that gives the impression of objectiveness, but it's not the same.

i read somewhere that 'when you think about something for long enough, any criticism or analysis begins to seem arbitrary, pointless and pointlessly subjective.'
