Re: Let's see your BASS!
I just sold my warwick. It played amazing and I never had a problem with it, but there was something about the sound. I could never get it to sound great, I could make it sound decent but

Mine sounds better than my old one. Same woods/pups/strings/etc.
This fucker weighs 12.5 pounds, has nicer looking woods, and IMHO slays.

Re: Let's see your BASS!
My War Thumb BO 5er sounded meh for 11 years; then I put some Circle K's on it and got an SVT and it now sounds amazing.
My Mexican P-Bass has been getting way more playing time though. Probably cause I'm in the honeymoon phase.

I scored my '95 MIM P-Bass for $90 on Craigslist. Dinged and scuffed, but sounds awesome.
Added a black pickguard and a Babicz bridge. Had an active EMG in it, but switched to a DiMarzio Split P, my favorite passive p pickup.

Best p-bass I've ever played.

It sounds "modern" not "vintage." Insanely high output, more louderer than the EMG I had in it before.
I <3 EMG's, for the record.
It's kick ass (to me.)

Re: Let's see your BASS!
I'm actually quite impressed with my P. It's a 98; which is the same year as my Thumb. I too put a black pickgaurd on it. It's the Candy Apple Red jawn on the previous page but here is a little before and after

It has some miss matched strings on it. The strings are old and dead and I can hear a difference between the off E string and the other strings. I appreciate that old dead string sound, but my preferences lean towards aggressive,...so I'll probably source some stainless steels since I need a consistent set anyway. Ultimately I want to set the bass up for C#/Drop B and restring my Warwick in Standard (Low B).

Re: Let's see your BASS!
Just never dug 'em.
That's not to say they don't sound great, and some of my favorite recordings were done with wicks. Just personal preference I guess.... hate the neck shape, radius, thickness and something about the body shapes (most of them) never felt right.

Re: Let's see your BASS!
Yeah; you either love them or hate them. I concede that the necks are baseball bats and the fingerboard has a radius more familiar to classical guitarist than a bassist, but I've never really been a stickler for those sorts of specs. I got used to the bass pretty quickly and now more traditionally spec'd out basses take a little adjustment.
Oh and Warwick has had some duds over the years. The Corvettes are just ugly as sin to my eyes. What the hell were the Vampyre and Buzzard (Yeah I get it; John Entwistle Sig Bass; still ugly) bass all about? And the Dolphin Bass I could never really get into.
But Dat Thumb (I think the NTs look slightly better than the BOs but a BO was all I could afford), Dat Streamer, Dat Infinity, Dat Star, Dat CRB.

Re: Let's see your BASS!

I found this Peavey T-40 in a friend's mess of a basement. It was painted with a combination of black spraypaint, and white house paint. "Metallica" and lightening bolts were carved into the body. The pickguard was mostly broken off, and the electronics that remained were no longer functional. I felt bad for this little gal; like an abused, starving puppy, so I took her in and fixed her up. Made a new pickguard out of plywood. Stripped, sanded, stained, and finished the entire thing: rewired brand new electronics to the original pickups: polished up the grimy hardware. Now I think she's quite the looker.
