I finished my track today, and I had a
BUNCH of fun doing it!
The original plan was to make sort of like a glitchy lo-fi hip-hop beat sort of thing using all the samples, but we all know how plans go. Got swept up in the moment and ended up using only two samples and creating something completely different.
Grabbed my OP-1 and plugged into it from my computer to sample your samples. Started off, still planing on going through with the beat idea, checking out the sample of the gate opening and closing (who sent that? That was a high quality sample!). Made a simple pitched down and filtered tribal-like drum kit, then went on to check out some other samples. First one I checked out was the mausoleum harmony sample, which I purely checked out because I have fond memories of hanging out there with my ILF budbuds. Decided to play around with it for a bit and ended up using it to create an entire choir (well, bass, baritones, tenors and countertenors/sopranos), plus some pseudo stringed instruments and writing an arrangement for each grouping. A couple of hours and many layers later I put down the OP-1 to realize that I had made something I never,
ever would have made if it hadn't been for this collab. So, thanks for the inspiration, my dudes and dudettes. I can't wait to hear all the stuff you guys came up with!

I did mine in 2 days. First day I spent my time chopping everything into smaller sounds and organizing them into categories like texture, atmos, perc, melody, pad, vox, and I think a couple others. Renamed all the chopped up bits into something more useful for me. I'll post this little sub sample collection after the album is completed
Second day was spent just making the track. I purposefully went a different direction than last time and just tuned and stretched samples. A little bit of dirt and some reverb, eq, and compression, but no other effects were used.

I guess I technically still have a day left

. I have a couple of live recordings but they're far from perfect and I need to find some time to see if I can get something better this evening...

Mine ended up very not live
Cut a little bit out of every sample, tweaked them a bit (quantise etc) and loaded onto morphagene. Then I made patches and scanned through samples till I found something I liked. Rinse and repeat. Then further cutting up of those recordings in the daw because I was too lazy to compose well enough to play full tracks and I was enjoying the unpredictable nature of the process.

Have been making progress in the evenings. Set up the laptop in the kitchen so I can bop between making dinner and trying to make something cohesive. Great sample set. Is there anyway we can extend the submit deadline to maybe Sunday? I had a cook and two hostesses quit this week so work has been nuts. Won't get time to get back to making noise until Friday night.
