this thread is 100. Ive been jamming to lots of Graf Orlock lately.
The japanese stuff is rad but I love pile ups and gang vocals and I can't do that in japanese. :picard:

SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING KOROSU
ADA-BLAH BLAH YA, DEDE EE DE SEEEEEE

What's with casecandy and being so blatantly racist when it comes to foreign languages?

Come on bro, I just don't SPEAK the language.
If anything the point is, you don't need to know the language to understand the music.
It hits you in the gut regardless.
Would you be offended if someone sang random syllables along to an English song?

...can you stop giving me a hard time now?
I feel like this has shifted from "laughing with" to "laughing at."

That's my point, If you don't speak it, don't mimic it, don't mock it.

I love trying to sing along to a band when someone right next to me is obviously shouting nonsense because they don't know the lyrics. :picard:

And we've be laughing at you for a while now, if not, the whole time.

I know that but it had a good-natured feel to it until this week. It feels... sinister somehow. I feel less welcome here lately. Probably a personal thing. You know, the above was a joke. You took it too seriously. I usually make up my own lyrics for Boris and Sigur Ros, etc., in English.

For real though I've found that fetishizing of japanese hardcore in the last five years can get super problematic at times. Like when you have bands full of white kids using stuff in their merch that looks like it's made by a non english speaker in 'tribute' to japanese bands, fuck that.
Hard not to bring this album/band up...

...especially after the whole thing with the Best American Poetry 2015, Michael Derrick Hudson, Sherman Alexie, etc., which you can Google as easily as I can summarize. But yeah.

many hints and even blatant things about such things have been pointed and said with the greatest of fortitude, and boris has lyrics printed in many of their packagings.

but on a lighter note because I don't come here to have to fucking deal with whatever.

Would generally rather listen to Ghostlimb then Dangers then Graf if we're talking about bands Vitriol Justin plays in.

One thought about that -- so much of fringe Japanese music is about fetishizing Western culture (see like every AMT album title/cover art) in ways that, were they not a Japanese band, would be ridiculed. The fact that they have derivation as a major focal point of their music is sometimes super weird to me -- I can speculate, but I can't claim to understand it.

Would I be correct in saying that derivation is a focal point of many aspects of Japanese popular culture? (Not rhetorical, I'm actually not sure. I don't understand it either.) Potential example: anime characters are mostly caucasian looking. Never found out why. One suggestion runs contra this line of thinking, i.e. Westerners "see" the characters as being white as default.
