Are you more concerned with it looking similar to a Ric, or sounding like a Ric?

If it's the looks, then you're going to have to hunt down one of the japanese copies.

If it's the Ric tone, then an old Peavey T-40 will get you 90% of the way there for somewhere in the 300-400 range. They really are fantastic basses with a shitload of different tonal options. The only downside is that they are heavy as shit, like 11 or 12 pounds.

There is also the plays like a RIC factor.. nothing quite plays like they do and you will either love or hate that.

Warwick Artist Series Jack Bruce Survivor

Both of these were unveiled at NAMM this year, and currently on order. I'm told that they'll hopefully be arriving to my house in August sometime. I'm keeping fingers crossed that the JB gets here by late July (unlikely, but I can hope) so I can "whip it out" for the run of Rocky Horror in the beginning of August.

I played a pedulla p/j bass today, it was awesome. The controls were master volume, blend, and master tone. It sounded really great, not for $800, but it was cool.

It's from their Artist Line, which is actually manufactured in Korea. It's a pretty sick bass; so much so that I waived my "no neck through basses" rule to order it.

semi hollow bass + massive fuzz + maximum volume = turrible feedback correct?i play doom

Depends, I play a 70s Jap les paul copy bass that from the sound of it, is semi hollow (no f-holes but there's definitely chambers in the body), running into a black russian>hot cake>black russian small stone>melos tape echo>metaphors>grilled cheese>morley bass wah.
I don't tend to find I get any feedback I don't go looking for.
If I'm not playing anything at all, and I"ve got the gain pedals turnned on, for sure, plenty o' feedback, but compared to playing my gretsch guitar through this sort of gain which is essentially uncontrollable, no problems at all.
