And yeah I love the way they look too <3
hiorgos - I haven't tried the Nano but I've heard it's the same as the big box version Either way I like the mojo of the folded metal enclosure better
Yap I was talking about the looks of the nano.. although some people says the nano sounds more thin, due of course the loss of the big enclosure. I know the sound is more important, but they did change a cool pedal into just a compact mini box.
I got a black sovtek one since 12 years ago, and really thinking I should get myself a USA version too.. (not as easy when you are not located in USA).
It's (the nano) simmilar to a V.3 Small Stone in that it uses LM13600 OTAs (or possibly 137s... either way) and OpAmps so it is a different design to the classic 5 chip (CA3094) & transistor Small Stone. Although they share the same topology of course.
That's interesting. Thanks! The v4 is more similar to the v1 and v2 isn't it?
V1,2,4 & Russians should all be pretty much the same, allowing for the odd difference or part tollerance.

i prefer it to every Small Stone i've tried... and the colour up mode is really... unique i'd say I love the Whetstone, but i miss the colour up mode.. Whetstone can't really do it properly

Thanks that kinda confirms what I thought about my v4 and v2. Which version do you prefer?
Haven't tried enough to say, but the Russian that Dark Axel had was previously in my hands and was the first phaser that made me go... maybe I don't hate phaser as much as I thought I did. Now I kinda like them! I wanna try a nano next.
That's almost exactly how it went for me I always thought phasers were really cheesy sounding till I discovered the Small Stone. I want to try a v3 and a Bad Stone next
Btw last night I realized that the key to fixing the Small Stones volume drop is to be boosting an already out of headroom amp haha. Then you can't even tell. Plus it's loud and awesome.

Yeah, I never got the 'Chorus is cheesy, phasers are better' guys but I see what they mean a bit now, although I still love chorus.
Eh... just mod the volume drop out, not hard if you can DIY at all.
Ahhh the Bad Stone, littleee bit of a lack of headroom (on the CMOS version at least, not built a FET one) but epic vibrato sounds and some nice big long swooshes. Definitley a cool phaser and with distortion it's epic. They do have a large volume drop though in the phaser mode and the feedback knob is kinda useless.
Yeah I was planning on modding it but it doesn't seem to be an issue with my rig at the moment There's definitely a volume drop when I'm playing in my room but not when I'm cranked up with the band. Kinda weird..
That sounds rad! Do you know of anywhere I could find a PCB to build myself a Bad Stone clone?

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.

I beleive you hear the volume drop some times and not others is because there isn't actually a drop, your ear just perceives one due to the effects nature.
I sold my last PCB... really regret that as now I don't have one anymore... that was kind of a dumb ass move
Nice. I love those too. That's a really clean one, Baxandall.
I just stole that pic man. Sorry I should have mentioned that. Mine is that clean though. I'll take a pic and share it tomorrow.

My green russian hands down sounds better than the 2 black sovteks I had, and the v4 I still have. Overall sounded better in both modes, but mostly up with the color, and the range is much different. My v4 tops out where the green is like 1 oclock.
