Hey earthlings. I got the Travelin' Frazz and am wrapping my head around its kickassosity index! Just started a new job with a 1 hour commute, so no demo yet. If it's cool with everyone, I'd love to send it out after the weekend, but since that's more than 3 days, I totally understand. Lovin the new OD character over my old Frazz thx to the mild/wild switch!

That's a tough commute buddy, hope you like the job a lot!

Thx Ryan; I like the job so far: I'm designing/building an auto/motorcycle learning center at a vocational highschool. First architecture job in 2 years...DANG. The commutes not so bad. It's a nice bike ride to the train stations at both ends, as well as a nice straight shot on the moto. More time on 2 wheels is always a good thing!

I was able to get the new frazz out to CBGB yesterday after some tight Saturday AM jamz. No recorded action unfortunately, but I can run my mouth about it here!

The new low gain side is a great OD. The wet/dry mix control is very useful for different guitars (my PRS and Tele for example) and different amps (I use a Lil Night Train, Tweaker/EVM12L, and DRRI). The toanz possible reminded me of a Green Rhino from Way Huge; puchy in the mids, but not to thick or compressed. Played nice after fuzzes like a Ge Fuzz Face and Astrotone. Also stacks well with Muff-y stuff like the Pharaoh.

The gated side is very much like my older Frazz (sn #171); super thick and punchy. It wasn't as 8-bit like as mine, though. I thought it was identical; any thoughts Ryan?

In both gain modes the sizzle control acts like a normal tone control to my ears (ramping from fatter to thinner CW), which is a welcome change for me as I struggle with the sizzle knob on my old Frazz. The old sizzle seems almost like a rotary selector of presets; i.e. not a linear change of frequency character.

The expression control of mix is really fun. Crank it in real time to 100% for the MASSIVE SOLO or whatnot. I tried my Devi Ever Eye photocontroller, but the rocker style one was much better.

The new footswitch is SUPERAWESOME. Love that sweet little nub. If you offered a retrofit, I'd get one for all my pedals!

Killer pedal Ryan! It really is two useful pedals in one, super double extra bonus points for not being a huge box with multiple foot switches! It was easy to use your foot to flip the gain switch. Great ergos, man!

Love the pix and postcards too, everyone; keep it up! I added one from SF of course.

Thanks very much, Ted! Really thorough review, much appreciated!

The nature of the gated side is something that I seem to always experiment with a little bit through the years... never big changes, just a a bias resistor from 1k to 2.2k or a tapering resistor from 3.3k to 5k, little details like that that just slightly change the character of the distortion. What sound do you prefer, sir? The more 8-bit sound of yours or the sound of the traveling demo?

I did make the sizzle more like a normal tone control and you're right about how the older version had different 'settings' through the sweep. I used to think that was the better way but on this new version I decided I like it better as a simple high-cut.

Glad to hear you dig the new switching style too, I love reading that! *smile* Thanks again!

Right on, Ryan; my pleasure! I should add that stacking the Frazz into the Cosmichorus and RRR makes a 3 pedal lineup that is extremely versatile. A million sounds in there. I should get a Pedaltrain mini just for this setup!

Regarding the 8-bit Frazz texture of my older one, that's what I prefer between the two. Maybe it has a narrower appeal, but it's more unique to my ear. Maybe an internal switch for the forthcoming Frazz 2?

The frazz is almost at my house! Plus I just scored the slutty stripped one from mike. Stacked frazz dazzler action!

Ted, I'm not able to do an internal switch for that little difference since I've got a run of these new pcbs for now. When I'm fine tuning and tweaking the Frazz I'm always adjusting it for 'grind'. Whatever that means, just that grindy kind of aggressive sound, and I think the traveling Frazz has the right 'grind'.

Jeromy, that's funny that you bought that stripped one! Let me know if you want to hack it up and experiment with it to make it more like the traveling Frazz.. well, unless you like the old one more... I don't think you will though...

Cool; thanks for the explanation, Ryan. It took me some time A/B-ing to hear the subtle differences. They are very close to my ear, maybe the old one is a little more raw? Totally subjective thing. Anyway, the new one still sounds incredible on both sides of the gain toggle!

I had to have it! We'll see if I need to change anything. The differences are pretty minor right? May just have to add the gate toggle if doable...and imust say, its about time I got some dr scientist on my board

I hope I can get familiar enough around here to get on the list for this! I love the 8 bit sounds in Bellyhearts demo. That was awesome.

I love that demo too, it has such a fun and cool sound to it.. the ending is so cool.. it's totally different than my palm mutings and power chording, I think Jon nailed it bigtime! And you're cool Officer, you can take part in this if you like.

Woo! Thanks Ryan :) I'm gonna have to wait a bit because I'm flat broke right now but as soon as I get some cash freed up I'll PM the Frazzbassador my info (I'll also have to talk to you about getting a cosmichorus :omg:).
