I think turning it into the monolith from 2001 with an ebony veneer is the only way.

Yep. They wouldn't have any interest in rehousing a competitor like Verellen either since the two have had some past disagreements regarding amps.

The Emperor shell would still run around $300 tho. Mammoth does great work. Dunwich Nick has headshell dude that charges around $135 IIRC. Also the guy who built Nick's baritone, TJ aka TheWoodWizard on HCFX, could probably knock it out at a reasonable price...

Mammoth is a great idea (you've seen in person the amazing work he does Evan) but he has to have the head to make the shell which would be a couple weeks downtime. TJ could probably build a beast headshell as well, the one he built for the weed wizard looked awesome.

I still think that ripping the tolex off and staining the original is the most cost effective way, plus it guarantees that it will fit the amp without having to ship it off.

Yeah, I think that is the route that I will go just because I've got stain on hand as well. What kind of tools do you think I'll need after I have the tolex off to work on the glue?

I will certainly do that! I think I'll work first on finishing up Rot Gut's WSG before I start it, but when I do, I'll take plenty of pictures :)

Excited to see how that turns out broseph! Stripping tolex plus staining gonna look super BADASS!

I honestly think the faceplate will look good as is with the shell going ebony. Will match nicely then, set that shit off a little. Or you going ALL the way ebony?

I vote for leaving the faceplate as is as well. Having a lighter colored faceplate to contrast the dark headshell looks killer IMO.

Wait. I'm confused. Did this come modded internally but without the stock headshell? Or, it has a Verellen faceplate but nothing else? I guess I gotta go back in the thread and look at that picture again.

Stock black tolexed headshell with a verellen faceplate, with internal mods to remove 95% of the gain.

There is something about blasting an amp really, really loudly in a small room that somehow relieves tension. It's like the volume and air is enveloping you and forcing you to forget the life you're leading. Quiet practising leaves you open to thoughts; blasting it clouds your brain. That's why I always get a fright when someone walks into my practise space when I'm cranking it.

yeah, I've been scared shitless a few times when I've cranked my amps in my room and someone taps me on the shoulder
