This kind of turned into a fiasco for many, as per this MW thread. In short: Korg oversold within the first afternoon, but kept taking orders (I call Reverb tie-in shenanigans!, but maybe just an automated mistake....or not?), causing hundreds of refunds/irate buyers to fill up the feedback on the Korg Official Reverb account within the next three days (thanks, Reverb 3-day purchase-to-post window for Pavlovin' us all). First batch of Opsixes were shipped from Korg NY fulfillment (not many), but a majority were sent from CA thereafter. Running theory is that Korg had an overseas shipment docked too long, causing heat exposure, and thereby decided to sell the questionable units at half price, as initial recipients had compromised screens (dead pixels, faint readout) or entirely DOA units. However, they are offering two options afterward: full refund & ship the unit back to Korg (really would like someone to include an airtag in an outgoing unit to see where these compromised/DOA synths end up eventually, as someone in that thread mentioned doing) or take it to the local Korg-approved repair shop (for many, it's at least an hour away's drive). Also, they are extending their warranty to 2 years for those who want to register/keep it, which is, I suppose......something.
I have one incoming this weekend, ha ha ha, fingers crossed, so maybe I can take it to Danny's Lazer Base instead of getting a refund?
Anyhow, all of this squashed my sad old theory that any manufacturer would blow out any electronic music making thing after the last three years, ever again. I kept thinking either the Wavestate or Minilogue V1's would be good to go, but I suppose....those days....are.........over
A guy I know that works at a synth shop said they are discontinuing them and would expect to see the lower price more soon. Idk how true this is. Apparently they sent a few to their shop for free at some point.

Free fixer uppers!? Time to drop 80K & start a synth repair shop!
Nah, really tho, aside from what this snafu has become, Korg seems to keep their margins pretty even, as there have been only a few retired devices I can think of that've been blown out at retailers (was the Korg Volca Sample v1 the last one before all of this? Aside from the horrible OK GO LTD Edition). General overstock is one thing, but I do remember that Sample V1 being super cheap for quite a while everywhere, and most of those seemed to work!
i don't know whether the news has spread round here, but WMD is going out of biz (victim to the vicissitudes of the supply chain plague). anyway, they're blowing out their stock @ 30% off direct from their store (you do pay reasonable shipping). this is pedals and in-stock modules, except for the 3 very cool modules they just announced - grab yer WMD stuffs before the speculators jack prices and they're out of reach 4ever

ikr absolutely sux - they were one of my faves as a babby pedalhead, and only became moreso as i spelunk'd the eurorock crevasse
This shop in Canada has the Cosmos restocked. Current wait times look like 4-6 months. PCA had a small batch last week, which sold out in hours. (900 CAD / 689 USD, but cheaper than the Reverb price)
(another minty one under $290 [ends today], if that one sells) ...although if you can order from an out-of-state dealer that doesn't collect sales tax for your state, you could get it cheaper with the 20% sale

I do not know how hard they are to come by but Effekt Boutique in Germany (https://www.effekt-boutique.de) has Geiger Counter in stock. Might not be very attractive if you're in the US but for a desperate soul it might be a consolation.
