i like people who didn't compromise: Neil Young, Mark Hollis, Joni Mitchell, MES.

OTOH and tbf, Jerry Garcia once said "we've been trying to sell out for years, but nobody was buying."

I don't like the word "authencity" regarding music, due to its connotation of "roots." i would say "individual" instead.

i admittedly think too much, but a lot of my over-analyzing is my way of finding more stuff like the stuff i like..."why do i like this? why do i hate this?"

The one here in Wilmington NC just closed. K Mart is the only place I ever got caught shoplifting as a rebellious youth. RIP

Agreed.

Tom Petty is a generic Elvis Costello ripoff.

On the note, Elvis Costello is the only Elvis that matters.
Better cameo in an actor's increasingly-less-well-received passion project:

Elvis Costello in Austin Powers 2 (or was it one?)
Tom Petty in The Postman

Tom Petty hands down, every time.

Both had some good songs that are fun on the radio every now and again. Both have some boring moments too. :idk:

Elvis Costello never had a song half as good as "Suspicious Minds" though.
Elvis Costello was on Frasier though

Everybody thinks too much about something. It can be fun and in a world where nobody thought too hard about anything we'd all still be bashing each other with rocks. This stuff used to bother me but I've mostly let it go. :)

Frasier is the best sitcom ever.

Poor stage attire for a guy who seems to already be permanently sweaty.

I think this is true for many musicians, at least that I've met, especially older ones that are more set in their ways (and that could include me). I like when I can annoy people by analyzing their favorite bands. If you're so into a band, why wouldn't you have something to say about their music?

Talking about music is more fun than talking about gear.

Big difference (or a fine line?) between analysis and overanalysis though.

Yeah, totallys. I don't like the latter either, but for some even a little is too much. I dunno, it varies a lot with who you're speaking too and the context. Like some musicians don't like to talk about their technique/style/preferences at all, while others will make a youtube channel dedicated to picking apart every aspect of it.

Ideally I'd like to meet somebody who liked the same shit as me and we could just agree, but that seems to never be the case around here (not on the forum, where I live) :picard:
