I just realized I hadn't put new strings on my bass in a year. And they are roundwounds.

For some reason I can't make myself change them until they feel really gross.
Now I'm forcing myself to change them. But flats are going on, so it'll probably be another year until the next change... This bass must hate me.
I'm the same way as BC (changing when they lose thier zing) but have have been lazy as of late. It's been about a year or so.

Maybe I just hate zing then. Nice to know I'm not the only one going long term on strings though. You guys make me feel normal.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Like your pregnant younger sister, I'm so late.
Anyways, I'm with the zingers. Once I lose that tang I boil them. BOIL YOUR STRING, PEEPS!!!! Or set them in denatured alcohol over night. You'll get another 50% out of them. Adds up in the long run. Then I switched to Thomstik Infelds and they lasted about two months. And now I'm using Circle Ks and they go about 3 months.
But I only change them if I'm jamming/playing out. I'll sit in dullness if I'm by myself.
And my thoughts for Behnders. I have nice shit that makes DOS jelly. But I can only afford that nice shit because I have one of everything. One bass. One amp. One cab. And not a single pedal board or cable that is off my board. Once it's not on my board, it's gone. It's pretty much all mid-high end shit. But I probably have less invested in my gear than most peeps because I only own one of them. It's POSSIBLE....that I could find an amp or bass SOOOOOOO different from the Status or Glock that I would get a second.....but owning a second Status....like....even if it were a 4stringer.....just seems like a waste of a huge investment.
That's just my philosophy.
So hear me out of this, guys. There's a Tecamp Puma 900 that I'm close to picking up.....a lot of people compare it to the Glock Blue Soul that I'm rocking, now. I'm REALLY thinking about pulling the trigger on this guy and testing it out. If it beats the Glock or is close, I sell the Glock and make about $600 to $700 on the switch. The risk being that I'm stuck with two high priced amp when I can't really afford it.......I'd need to move the loser quick......but the Puma or Blue Soul would move quick if priced nice.....right?
I'm totally happy with the Glock. Best head I've ever played on.......just wondering if I could get the same thing AND have some money to complete my board......

Man, the Tec is a killer amp. In comparison, the Glock is slightly fuller and deeper sounding. Both do insanely clear sounds but they have their own character too - it's not like EA stuff which sounds like a power amp with an EQ.
Glock - Sounds almost 3D and tubey a times. Yet it's super clear and hifi.
Tec - A little bit more bark and solid state to the tone. It's not like its a GK or anything like that but it has that really quick zing and response to notes. You can tweak the taste knob on it to darken the tone too - set a bit darker, it's close to the Glock.
You're pretty much choosing between a 9/10 amp (Glock) and an (8.5/10) amp (Tec). If the Glock hasn't stopped you looking at other amps, you'd probably be pretty happy with the Tec and some cash. Since I had a family and couldn't afford to buy the Glock head to go with my cab, I've been really satisfied with the Tec.

urg. i don't have the patience to boil strings. i buy the Dingwall strings, they last about 2-3 months if i'm gigging about once or twice a month. it's less than $150 a year i spend on them and i'm ok with that.
i dunno. the Dingwall is a sturdy BEAST...... but i guess i'm just scared. if something went wonky with it i'd be fucked. i have another 6'er, but i hate playing it. and me and Paul are looking at trying at least 3 day weekend style mini touring (how far out of your yarea do you have to be for it to count as touring not gigging?), and i for SURE would want a backup for that.
lol. then again, i feel like a fucking GOOF pulling down maybe $20 a night and bringing around $4 g's worth of gear now. adding another $2,500 to that is even MOAR SILLIES.

Dude, you are packing more than 4 G's already, I bet you are at the $6500 mark already, think about it.

I wouldn't put a price on chasing original sounds. If it costs $100 or $6k, it all really comes down to what is affordable and what works.
The worst thing I see on TB is all of these guys with extensive reviews of boutique gear and when you follow links to their bands, they play Brown Eyed Girl once a month with their truckload of gear. Its hard not to have a dig a them and ask how the millisecond of decay on the two root notes they use is worth the extra $15k. that said, I know I use better gear than my ability justifies too. I at least get some comfort from the fact I'm trying to be creative. I think anyone passionate about new sounds should get a pass on the gear valuation argument

Haha. I hear ya.
The way you dscribe them, the Glock would win. So fucking awesome. The sound is a weird combo of dark and heavy sound but still articulate and hifi. It's basically ended my amp search......until someone said "close but cheaper". But if it can't get AS warm and dark than I think it's Blue Soul ftw.
Btw, that new Darkglass Vintage pedal looks sweeeeeeet.

Oh I am in the same boat as Behndy or you or Sousa, I agree and don't give a shit what other people think about me having a decently big pedalboard, expensive bass or whatever.
I was just was making a comment that his numbers were low on his post. No judgement.
That Darkglass vintage probably does your favorite amp tones Sousa, AMPEG SVT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah man. I'm keen to check out the Darkglass Vintage. If its a little darker sounding than the B3k, I'll be all over it.
I also like the sound of the Zvex Basstortion that's coming out. That's the other one on my short list.
