I was shopping for some $400 Zamberlan hiking boots but then realized I could buy a $75 pair of New Balance and then a few pedals so that's what I did.

I do have a pair of these going strong, although I don't expect them to last terribly long since the toe cap came loose with less than 100 miles on them.

You can fix a toe cap
if you get some E-500 it should hold pretty well

Yah, I have some Shoo Goo, that fixed my old Montrails after many years of excellent service. I should probably do that tonight in fact!

Maybe I was secretly hoping to use the "well the toe cap came loose, so I better buy new boots" excuse with my wife? These call my name:

E-500 is a chinese epoxy from work

but yeah, fixing is less cool than buying new boots

I had a pair of freds on a danite sole. Not worth retail, but they go on ridiculous sales. I think mine were $120 on Gilt.
